                Principal's Message December/January

Thank you to so many parents for tuning in to our classroom tweeting! How wonderful it is to see the daily activities of teaching and learning keeping the building busy. It is good to see our students constantly engaged in purposeful activities that contribute to their learning.

Every year, principals are asked to complete a report called the Annual School Results Report. The 2017-2018 School Results Report is posted on the website under the Assessment and Reporting section. This report outlines our 2017-2018 targets from our 2017-2018 School Development Plan and reports what we are working on for the year 2018-2019. It also includes June 2018 Grade 6 PAT results and information. The School Fees report to parents for 2017-2018 is posted in the same location for your perusal.

We had a great turn out for our November Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences and we thank you for your ongoing support of your child’s learning. Our partnership with parents is highly valued as we know that students are more successful in their educational achievement when all the adults in their lives work together. We hope that these conferences provide you with an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in school and to have your questions addressed. Please note that your child will be receiving their report card on January 31st.

There are many updates and news items to share with you at this time of year!

·         Winter Concert (December 13th) - Please refer to School Calendar for times.
·         Winter Concert audience etiquette: We respectfully request that our audience remain seated for the entire performance and not leave at various times during the performance unless there is an emergency. Our students have worked very hard to bring you a quality performance and deserve the chance to focus on what they are doing without distractions.
Carol singing – parents are welcome to join us for some festive carol singing at the following times:
o   Monday, December 17 – 10:40-11:00
o   Wednesday, December 19  – 8:15-8:35
o   Thursday, December 20 – 12:25-12:45
o   The whole school will be in the large gym to sing together at these times.

·         Lost and Found – Our Lost and Found boxes are overflowing! Please come and check to make sure you have no items hiding there! On December 21st any remaining items will be boxed and taken to Goodwill except for mittens or gloves. These are the only items we are in short supply of at this time so we will recycle them within our school community. Any donations of gloves or mittens will be gratefully received here at Belpark.
·         We are a very caring school community. This fall we have participated in many caring acts; The Terry Fox Society, Poppy Fund and the Mayor’s Food Drive – Thank you for thinking of others at this time of the year as you bring your donations of non-perishable food only to deposit in the boxes beside the office.
Finally, I would encourage all our community to pay special attention to those things that really matter in our lives. Loved ones, time together to laugh and the chance to relax and enjoy the things that come free to us are to be most valued. These are the things that give us the resilience and strength for the challenging parts of our journeys.
On behalf of Belvedere Parkway School staff, I wish everyone a warm, restful and most of all peaceful Winter break.
Jane Gibson
Principal
