Principal's Message

Dec. 2018/Jan. 2019

As we come into the wintry season, I appreciate all who continue to make sure that their children, our students, are safe when it comes to traffic in and around the school and being prepared for the weather. Safety over convenience is something I hope we can all keep in mind!
Bravo to our Grade 5 teams who led our very heartfelt Remembrance Day assembly and assisted with our Veteran’s Food Bank Drive for 2018. Your continued leadership in this community work is greatly appreciated!
A huge thank you from Brentwood School to all who assisted at the recent Brentwood Parent Society sponsored casino held at the Elbow River establishment. This very worthy cause brings so much opportunity and resources for our staff and students. This fundraising endeavor is very much appreciated!
We look forward to some excellent performances from our Grade 2, 4 and 5 teams that will stem from the first set of drumming residencies with One World Drumming (letters home about performance times will be coming home shortly). Added performance items of songs connected to the culture of African drumming are truly enhancing the learning experience for children. Thank you to our music teachers Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Lau for the extensive work with students to put those choral presentations together in combination with the drumming. And of course our sincerest gratitude to our Parent Council/Society for providing the funding for this program. Their continued financial support of such endeavours always support the learning opportunities for Brentwood students.
Thank you to those parents who took the time to attend Parent-Teacher conferences. It is very important that parents make every effort to attend conferences to connect with their children’s teachers – to understand progress to date as well as understand work to the future. Report card sharing “term one information” will be sent home January 31st, 2019.
Kudos to those parents who came out to our last School Council meeting to hear more about our School Development Plan at Brentwood for the 2018-19 school year. The focus for this plan is on math and literacy and will be posted for viewing on our school website in early December.
With the final approval of fees by both the CBE and the province of Alberta, it is important that fees are reconciled as soon as possible. Fees (both system and school based) can be paid online by accessing ‘My CBE Account/Power School’ on the CBE homepage as well as the Brentwood homepage.
We will host our annual Open House (January 10, 6:30 PM) as well one final Volunteer Orientation for the school year (January 17, 6:30 PM). If you have questions about either of these events, please contact our main office for additional information.
May the holiday season be the best it can be for the remainder of 2018 and may 2019 ring in with good health and happiness for all!
Mr. Michayluk Principal
