Principal's Message

April 2018

Dear Parents & Guardians,
Although March was a short school month, there were a number of exciting activities occurring. Love of Reading Week gave us many opportunities to celebrate literacy, share our favourite books and poems with others, and provided the perfect lead-in to the used book sale. We were so impressed with the dedication and organization of our parent community as we witnessed the used book sale flawlessly come together. Sincere thanks go out to the many volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making this event a huge success.

In mid-March, we were fortunate to have Evergreen Theatre performing “The Sinking Island,” and the twelve students who took part in the production did a wonderful job. The play focused on the topic of global warming and ended on a very positive and hopeful note with the message, “Every little bit helps.”

Finally, March ended with student-led conferences. It was a pleasure to see the pride on students’ faces as they guided their families through some of their school activities and shared their learning. We encourage you to provide feedback on this format by completing a short survey or by sending an email to Stephen, Robin, or the classroom teacher.
In April, we look forward to welcoming artist Sharon Fortowsky, who will be working with each class for three one-hour blocks over a three week period of time. Each team of teachers has had the opportunity to meet and plan with Sharon, weaving in curricular connections and determining the best media for their artistic creations. At the end of the residency, student art will be displayed and shared with parents. Details about this opportunity to celebrate our learning will be sent out closer to the end of the month.
Sincerely,
Stephen Hart, Principal Robin Halbert, Assistant Principal
