April 26
April 26th

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you have noticed, weekly updates will now be placed on our banner on our website. We will also be sending you a school messenger update every two weeks to remind you of upcoming events in our school.

On Monday, April 29th, we will be welcoming Ms. Julie Ramsay to Buchanan as our acting assistant principal while Tania Wong is on a leave of absence. Julie is a retired assistant principal from CBE and we look forward to inviting her into our school community.

Buchanan school was involved in a family math night this month where students and their families walked around the school solving math mysteries. It was a lot of fun for everyone. Because our school development plan focuses on math problem solving, you will see many bulletin boards and activities throughout the school focusing on many different math concepts through the lens of problem solving. You are welcome to come and see the work the students and staff have been working on with our math coach, Angela Harris. As I walk around the school and visit classrooms, it is evident that the children are engaged in math learning and having fun at the same time. We want students to engage in problems worth solving - problems that encourage thinking, perseverance, collaboration, and risk-taking.  We want them to have the experience of working at vertical, non-permanent surfaces, on rich tasks, and in collaboration with others - a few of the necessary elements for building a thinking classroom.
