Great First Week, Forms, Swimming, Staff | Sept. 9-13, 2019

What a great first week of school. It is always very exciting to see how the students have changed and matured over the summer as well as their energy when they arrive in the school.

The pancake breakfast was also a success, thank you to the staff for organizing such a great way to end the first week of school. We cooked just shy of 1000 pancakes and saw as many smiling faces when they discovered the syrup surprise inside.

Weekly Update Sept 9-13

What a great first week of school.  It is always very exciting to see how the students have changed and matured over the summer as well as their energy when they arrive in the school.
The pancake breakfast was also a success, thank you to the staff for organizing such a great way to end the first week of school.  We cooked just shy of 1000 pancakes and saw as many smiling faces when they discovered the syrup surprise inside. Every year the school is mandated to have six fire drills, three prior to the Winter break.  We will have our first fire drill on Thursday Sept 12 in the morning and the second Monday September 16th in the afternoon to ensure the Kindergarten students know what to do when they hear the alarm.  The remaining four drills will be spread throughout the school year. Tomorrow, Monday Sept 9th the students will be bringing home a communication folder with a number of forms for you to look through, complete, sign and then return to the school. Please return the forms to your child’s teacher as soon as you can to ensure we have all of the appropriate information needed for the school year. Lunchroom registration forms are on line, therefore there will not be a paper copy within the package this year. There will also be swimming lesson forms included in the package.  Please return the swimming forms as soon as you can to allow us to give the swimming pool what they need to ensure a successful swimming program for our students. We will also need a number of volunteers for the swimming program, if you have your police clearance and are able to come to the pool please let the teacher know. Thank you in advance. A great location to find additional information on what is happening at the school is the School Council Face book page. There you will be able to find out where to sign up for Healthy Hunger lunches and more. Thank you to the many parents who participate on the School Council and Parent Association for BRS. Stay tuned for the dates of this years meetings. You may have noticed some additional markings around our crosswalks, many thanks to our School Council and Parent Association for pursuing some guidance in ensuring our students are more visible when crossing the street.  We need your help in teaching the students the safest way to cross any street and that is at the crosswalks. Please take the extra time to walk to the corners and model what we would like all of our students to do. This year we have a full compliment of staff and the parking lot is full with staff member cars. Please do not use the parking lot to pick up or drop off your child.  Parking on the street is a better choice, and parking in the Save on Foods lot and walking is the best alternative. Please remember that in front of the school is a no stopping/ parking zone and you run the risk of getting a ticket. Teaching our students to jaywalk and run out between cars is definitely not a good choice, as well as U-turns anywhere around the school.  Lets make this year’s focus, safe walking to and from school modeling best practice as we go. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Cheers and have a great week Cathy
