Principal's Message

May 2020

Good afternoon Buffalo Rubbing Stone families,
We hope you are well and we miss you!
Today marks the end of my first four weeks at Buffalo Rubbing Stone School.  I’ve been getting to know the teachers and support staff, learning about our students and our school, and planning for next year.  I’m accustomed to being in classrooms and being a part of the learning so spending all my time at my desk is a new experience!
I was very happy to learn about our erratic – our buffalo rubbing stone.  When I was a little girl, my family spent time every summer camping in Jasper National Park.  My favourite place to go was the Angel Glacier on Mount Edith Cavell.  There were lots of curious Canada jays and chipmunks who would stand on my grandpa’s hand.  I’d hold my hand out for them but I couldn’t stay still enough so they never landed on me! L  Imagine my delight when I learned that our buffalo rubbing stone is an erratic from Mt. Edith Cavell.  It wandered here on a glacier during the last ice age, thousands of years ago, just like I wandered up the mountain when I was little.  We are all connected in so many ways, sometimes in ways we’ve never realized.
One of the things I’m learning from the teachers is how connected we are as a school community, how well we support one another, and how that support inspires us to take risks.  What a gift!  For a group of people who are so accustomed to being together, it’s been challenging for many of us to manage the closure of classes.  We are grateful that staying connected with technology is possible.  We are appreciative of everything everyone is doing to be engaged in the ongoing learning directed by teachers and supported by everyone at home.
We are also accustomed to being far more active!  I hope you are finding healthy ways to be active physically, socially, and mentally.
Take very good care,
Allison
