This next week is especially busy for our grade 3 / 4 students. The remaining four classes will be heading to the Glenbow museum on Monday and all of the grade 3 / 4 students will be visiting Fish Creek Park on Thursday. On Monday we will have our second Lockdown practice at 11:00 in the [...]

Principal's Message

Winter Update

First, thank you to the volunteers who assisted with the Kindergarten field trip to the Bow Habitat Station. The Kindergarten students and their teachers learned a great deal about the life cycle of fish, each arriving back at the school with their own homemade “fish hat”. Tomorrow, Monday January 30th the students will bring home their report card. Report cards are sent home twice a year, once in January and then again at the end of June. You will see on the report card that each of your children will have areas that they are achieving at grade level (2-4), as well as some areas that still require a bit of work (1). As a school we will continue to celebrate and challenge your children in the areas that they are achieving and support in a variety of ways the areas of concern. If you have any questions regarding what is stated on the report cards, please contact the teacher and set up a meeting. The next set of formal parent teacher conferences will be March 22 and 23rd.
This Friday, February 3rd is a system professional development day, therefore no school for the students. The teachers will be participating in professional development for the day.
Please take a look at the parent association face book page for upcoming events during the month of February. I know there are a few things happening sporadically placed throughout the month.
February 9th, 2017 is our official school opening featuring guests from the Alberta Legislation, CBE, as well as representatives from the various building companies that worked on the school. This event allows for showcasing student achievements, as well as speeches from the various stakeholders and an exchange of gifts between the stakeholders and our students. All of our students are participating in this special event. As such we are in the process of deciding how to invite as many parents as we can with the limited seating available. There will only be at most 200 tickets for 322 families. Please stay tuned as we try to figure out an equitable means to share in this special occasion. We will be taping the assembly to share with the students and any families that are unable to attend. Once we come up with a plan, I will share it out to all of the families at the same time; please do not call the office prior to that message being sent. Thank you.
Please continue to demonstrate respectful driving habits around the school. Now that it is warmer out, maybe parking a little bit further away and walking may decrease the amount of congestion around the school. Also remember the school opens at 7:45 AM and starts promptly at 8:00 AM. Punctuality is a life skill that we all want for our students as they move up the grades towards the job market. Skills we teach and model today, are remembered later on in adult life.
If you have any questions and concerns, please give me a call and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Cheers,
Cathy
