December 2018 Principal Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

December is here and cold weather is in the forecast. Please remember to dress for the weather, we have had some warmer days however, students are outdoors every day and it can be very cold with the wind. Thank you to those who have put their child’s name in their clothing, it does make returning lost items easier. Our lost and found will also be cleaned out before the Winter break, please have a look if you are missing anything before the break.

We are excited to share that our school has been identified for the School Playground Program. We will give more details as they are available. It is exciting that our school will be able to upgrade this important equipment that students enjoy every day.

It is a busy month here at Catherine Nichols Gunn School. Here are the highlights:

·         December 7th is a professional Development Day and there is no school for students.

·         December 13th grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 Christmas concert will take place. There will be both an afternoon and evening performance at 1:30pm and 6:30pm. Please note that the evening concert is very busy so we ask only immediate family attend in the evening. The afternoon performance is open to all who wish to attend.

·         December 13th is the School Council’s pick up date for the cookie dough fundraiser. Please come after school or to the evening concert to collect your cookie dough.

·         December 17th our first written report card comes home. Please take time to look over the report card with your child and celebrate their successes.

·         December 17th-19th is our annual Christmas store. Students will have an opportunity to go shopping at very low prices to buy gifts for their family. This is an exciting time for students to learn the gift of giving.

·         December 21st is our last day before break and is a half day. Students will be dismissed at 12:06pm so please be sure to pick them up early or that someone is home. We return to classes on Thursday, January 10th, 2018.

I want to wish you all a happy holiday season and Merry Christmas. I hope you are able to enjoy time with your children and know that the gift of time is priceless.

Warm Wishes,
Steve Wigglesworth

Over the course of the 2019-20 school year, we will continue to have conversations with students, parents, and staff to learn from their experiences and to seek their input and suggestions for improvement #yycbe

Earlier this afternoon Chief Superintendent Christopher Usih and Dr. Kent Donlevy presented the results of the independent bullying review #yycbe

There are no classes for students on Friday Oct 11 because it is a system-wide non-instructional day. All schools and offices are closed on Monday Oct 14 for Thanksgiving. Have a fun and safe long weekend! #WeAreCBE
