Principal's Message

Looking Forward to Spring

The days are getting longer and students and staff are looking forward to the return of spring, the end of a long winter and a well-deserved break in four weeks is coming soon. But Calgary is so very unpredictable when it comes to weather. Even if the forecast is for warm weather, please make sure your children come to school prepared for colder weather.
Congratulations and good luck to: Kinda (Grade5), Alina (Grade 6), Annah (Grade 6) and Bevone (Grade 6). Our finalists of our School Science Fair are polishing up their projects and preparing for their competition for the Calgary Youth Science Fair in April. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Ford, Ms. Anna, Ms. Valz, Ms. Finch, Ms. Peller, Mrs. Inberg, Mrs. Belan, Mrs. Harper, Ms. Peltier, Ms. Vuong, who organized another successful Science Fair this year.
Communication: *For parents to receive commercial messages, they need to subscribe to them. Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) is intended to prevent people from getting commercial electronic messages that they did not agree to. Commercial electronic messages include email and text/SMS messages that invite or encourage participation in buying, selling, donating, trading and paying fees. CASL states we can’t send a message via School Messenger about subscribing, so sending you a message in our newsletter so that you can make an educated choice is permitted. On that note, please consider saying yes to getting texts or emails from us. This would be the fastest way for us to communicate with you.
Here is the following message link to get you started: http://calgary.schoolmessenger.com/cbe_subscribe
If your child comes home and says to you that they do not have any home work, would you please ask them to show you their agenda. Some of our students do complete their assignments at school. A few of our students do have home work but are not motivated to complete it and would rather tell you that they do not have any work to do. Rest assured that all of our students are expected to read a book at their level for 30 minutes, they also can practice their writing skills by copying a short newspaper article or even a paragraph from their reading book. Some could also do some Mathematics if you so desire. We all know that a half - hour of practice will not harm them for life.
If you are having trouble registering and creating your MyCBE/PowerSchool account, please review the process listed in this newsletter. It has come to our attention that only 55% of families have an account. We are here to help in any way we can.
On behalf of Cecil Swanson staff we want to thank you for your continued support in helping your child, “Be the Best You Can Be” and we look forward to seeing you at our next School Council Meeting, Tuesday March 5 at 6:30 pm.
Sincerely
Mr. Victor Sealy, Principal.
