About Our School

Chaparral School serves a diverse population of students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. We pride ourselves in providing rich, real-world learning opportunities for the students across the curriculum. From harvesting and planting our school garden, to our partnering with the Alberta Treasury Branch with the Jr. ATB Program, to out of classroom experiences, our students are exposed to authentic learning.   

Our continued focus this year on our School Development Plan encompasses promoting active, strategic readers. Students engage in tasks that provide them with opportunities to interact with text in deep and meaningful ways. Through this work, students acquire strategies to become independent thinkers and effective readers of all kinds of information, moving student comprehension beyond knowledge and recall towards higher levels of thinking and understanding.

Care for each other, care for yourself, care for our environment. These Three Pillars of Care provide a framework from which we are building character and capacity in our children to be able to identify and solve problems, and manage themselves in appropriate manners. A person’s character shows in the way he or she interacts with family, friends, teachers, and community members. Through our on-going work with the S4 Program, we hope to build positive character traits and resiliency in our children. Resiliency, the capacity to recover quickly from difficulty, is a vital skill in all human interactions, and our hope is our kids will be able to demonstrate personal responsibility, accountability, and confidence, in the face of an ever-changing world.

School Development Plan

​Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.​​​

School Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school.
