January 2019 Principal's Message

Happy 2019! Welcome back students and families! We hope everyone had a fabulous break. It was wonderful to relax, recharge, and spend time with friends & family. We look forward to starting a new year with our students and can't wait to hear all about the exciting things they did over the break!

We were so proud of our grade 1 and 2 students who put on another marvelous winter concert, titled “The Big Chill”, on Thursday, December 13, 2017. We hope that our families enjoyed the show. We would like to thank our grade 1 and 2 team of teachers, Mrs. Harvey and Ms. Jackson for all of their hard work putting this production together. We clearly saw how much the students enjoyed the songs and performing for the audience.

Thank you to all our families who supported the School Council sponsored cookie dough fundraiser. We are looking forward to the additional resources and materials we will be able to purchase for our Learning Commons using the profits from this initiative.

At this time, we would like to make our Citadel Park School community aware that Mr. Faunt will continue to be on leave. In his absence, we welcome Lois Reid as our Acting Principal. Lois is a retired CBE principal who has taught students from Kindergarten to grade 6. She brings with her expertise as a specialist in resource, music and literacy. Lois is a great believer in empowering students through skill development, challenge and expression. We look forward to working and learning with Mrs. Reid until Mr. Faunt is able to return to work. Please feel free to contact Lois with any questions or concerns through the school office at 403-777-8063.

Please note that we have many items in our lost and found that have accumulated from September to December 2018. These items will be in the Conference Room until Thursday, January 10, 2019.  The left over items will be bagged up on Friday and donated to charity.  If you have any missing items, please come take a look before Friday.  Starting January 7, any new lost and found items will be placed in the Gathering Space.

If you have any younger children who will be entering Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year, please be aware that Kindergarten registration begins on Monday, January 14, 2019. There will be a parent and student orientation later in the spring.

We would like to invite our parents to the January School Council meeting which has been moved to Tuesday, January 15,  2019 at 7:00 in our Learning Commons. We will be talking about some of the work that students have been engaged in over the past number of months in the Learning Commons.

Our first set of reports cards will be going home with students on Thursday, January 31, 2019. This report card is part of our on-going communication with parents about your child’s progress in learning. When the report cards arrive home, please take the time to review them with your child, to talk about areas of celebration, areas of continued growth, and areas where your child can set attainable goals for the coming months of the school year.

Other important dates to mark on your calendar:

Friday, January 11, 2019             - Non-instructional Day, No School for Students

Thursday, January 24,2019         - Fun Lunch: Subway

Monday, January 28, 2019          - Life Touch Group Class Photos

Sincerely,

Michelle Ryskamp

Assistant Principal

CBE playgrounds remain closed. We will begin re-opening on Monday, June 1. Openings will continue throughout next week. Once the yellow tape has been removed and signs say the playground is open, the equipment can be used according to health guidelines. #yycbe #WeAreCBE #yyc https://t.co/zBid3GNq26
