“Aaah, summer - that long anticipated stretch of lazy, lingering days, free of responsibility and rife with possibility. It's a time to hunt for insects, master handstands, practice swimming strokes, conquer trees, explore nooks and crannies, and make new friends.”
-Darell Hammond

After a long, cold winter it’s wonderful to experience an abbreviated spring and early arrival of summer weather! It seems Mother Nature has been working hard to catch up for lost time. And while it may be tempting with such beautiful weather to ease into the summer break, we find ourselves still hard at work.

May ended with artist in residence Darryl Pollock, who worked with all classrooms in developing their photography skills. We, of course, had an opportunity to share our work with parents and community members during our celebration of learning and potluck dinner on May 31. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to an amazing night. Also, we welcomed many new families to our school at our kindergarten orientation in the evening of May 30, which was followed up with a kindergarten sneak-a-peek in the afternoon of Thursday, May 31.

Teachers are also hard at work planning for events this June. On June 4, students involved in fish club will be saying farewell to the trout we have been raising through the FINS program. Also, teachers are busy planning our end of year sports day and BBQ on June 25 and our grade 6 farewell, which is scheduled for June 27 in the afternoon.

Planning for the 2018-2019 school year is also well underway. Teachers have been collaborating to develop next year class lists and planning transitions for students who will be changing teachers or moving to other schools. We have also been hard at work scheduling artists in residence and exploring possible field trips for next year.

I look forward to continuing our great work together this month and next year!
