Principal's Message

March/April 2019

We are eagerly anticipating Spring and some warmer weather! February has been a long month full of indoor recesses, cold walks to and from school and late buses. We appreciate all of your patience with this and the resiliency in our students is amazing! They are able to adapt to anything and continue to work hard despite any changes or unexpected circumstances. Over the past two months students have been engaged in mission impossible, field trips, inline skating and our spell-a-thon fundraiser. Thank you so much to all who participated in this fundraiser as we were able to raise almost $4,000! This money will go towards programs offered in the school that enrich learning for all students. Also, we’d like to thank all the families who joined us for our family rollerblading night on February 28. It was great to see all of the families and to be part of such an amazing and supportive community. We hope you had fun.
March and April are crammed with important and exciting learning opportunities for students, including: one world drumming residency, ice skating for Grade 4 students, conferences, spring break, Outdoor School for Grade 5 students and our work with our artist in residency, Jeff Stockton. While all of these are exciting opportunities, our main focus continues to be on ensuring all of our students achieve academic success. All of our activities are linked to learning outcomes and assessed by our teachers to ensure students continue to learn. Math and Literacy continue to be a large focus for us and we continue to work together through professional learning opportunities to enhance and improve our teaching. We are collecting lots of evidence that shows our progress and we are excited by these results. We also continue to have mindful moments each day and practice our mindfulness skills.
Please see your child’s blog and our website for important dates over the next two months. We look forward to seeing all of you at conferences on March 21 and 22 to discuss your child’s learning and ways you can continue to support them.
