Principal's Message

November/December 2018

What an amazing first few months of the school year we have had! We have such an amazing group of students and we look forward to seeing them every day. The classrooms have been busy with and loud with interesting and fun learning activities. Teachers post information about the learning that takes place regularly on their classroom blog. Please take the time to look at these blogs weekly and ask your child about what they learned that day. Communication between parent and student and parent and school is essential to each students’ success.
This past month we participated in some great activities. Students watched a musical presentation from the Canadiana Music Company about the creation of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Grade 3 students had a field trip to the public library and we celebrated Halloween with our family dance. On October 26, teachers participated in professional development around effectively teaching and engaging students in mathematics. They are excited to incorporate some of their learning into their classrooms.
November and December bring great opportunities as well. Grade 5 students participate in their first round of Outdoor School. They will attend again in April. This is a great opportunity for each of them to build their leadership skills. The Grade 5 students will also lead a Remembrance Day Assembly on November 9 at 10:00 am. Parents are invited to attend.
Conferences will be on November 22 and 23. These are a great time to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss their learning up until this point. More information will be coming soon about registration and times. Report cards will go home right before the winter break. The last day for students is on December 21.
Thank you to all of the parents who have been participating in our school council. Our attendance has been up and we have great plans for the year. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered for positions on the council. We are looking forward to a successful year. Our next meeting will be on November 15 at 5:30 pm in the G. W. Skene Learning Commons.
We hope you are all looking forward to the winter season. We promise you to continue to do our best each and every day with every single student. We are proud to be a part of this wonderful community. Please don’t ever hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments.
Thank you,
Mr. Siakaluk and Mrs. Scarrow
