June 14 Update

Hello HMS Families,
This has been a busy week at HMS. Our grade 6 students have completed almost all of their PAT Exams. Only the Science PAT is remaining on the morning of Monday June 17. We have been so impressed wih our students' positive attitudes and effort this week. They have really met the challenge! We will be celebrating our grade 6 students on Tuesday June 25 at 1:45-3:07 PM. We will be sending home an official invitation on Monday so that families can RSVP to let us know how many will be attending. For this celebration, we invite all of the classes to join us in the gym for an assembly, then we will send students in grades 1-5 back to their classes to allow the grade 6 students to have refreshments with their peers and the important adults in their lives. Thank you to our Parent Association for providing the refereshments.
Our youngest students will also be celebrating with the Kindergarten Celebration of Learning on Tuesday June 18 from 9:00-9:30 AM. I have had the opportunity to catch snippets of the performance when they have been practicing and I can assure you it will be wonderful!
Friday is one of the most anticipated events of the year: our annual Stampede Breakfast! This is a fun family event that is organized by our School Council and paid for by our Parent Association. We hope you will be able to join us for pancakes, sausages, juice, and coffee. Everyone is welcome. We will have some special guests joining us, including the Batter Boys flipping pancakes and the Stampede Queen and Princesses. Following the breakfast, each grade will have an opportunity to meet the Queen and Princesses in the learning commons to ask a few questions and to learn a little bit about their roles with the Stampede organization. Thank you to all of the volunteers who make this event possible and a VERY special thank you to Shawna McIntyre, our Volunteer Coordinator for her incredible work putting this event together. I would also like to thank Calgary CO-OP for donating the sausages.
After the Pancake breakfast, we will begin our Sports/ Activity Day festivities. There will be an assembly at 9:45 AM to get us ready for the day and then students will be participating in stations for most of the morning, until about 11:30 AM. Thank you again to the volunteers who have agreed to help us with the activities and thank you to the grade 5/6 students who will be planning the activities. Once everyone comes in (the bell will ring around 11:30 to signal the end of Sports Day), students will enjoy a popsicle treat in their classrooms with their teachers provided by HMSPA.
For parents of students who have IPPs, your teacher will be contacting you this week (if they haven't already) to meet with you and sign for the June reporting period of the IPP. In March, if you attended Learning conferences, you will have discussed a possible transition plan with your child's teacher to support your child in moving to their new grade, teacher, or new school. This transition plan will be documented in the June IPP for yourself and for next year's teacher to be aware of. If you have not heard from your child's teacher about signing the IPP by Wednesday June 19, please call the office to let us know so we can facilitate communication.
As we wrap up the 2018-19 school year, our focus is in two distinct directions: Finishing this school year with strength and positivity and looking towards our plans for the 2019-20 school year. We will send a letter to families in the last week of school letting you know about our planned school organization for next year. As we do each year, we will make adjustments to our staffing and school organization in the fall, depending on any changes in student enrolment and complexity. Parents will receive an email from their child's teacher at the end of August between August 28th and 31st, letting you know who your child's teacher is, what room they will be in, and a few details about first day procedures.
Coming up:
Monday: Grade 6 Science PAT, 8:45-11 AM
Tuesday: Kindergarten Celebration of Learning, 9:00 AM in the Gym
Wednesday: Calgary Public Library visit, Fun Lunch (Little Caesars)
Friday: HMS Annual Stampede Breakfast, Sports and Activity Day
Have a great weekend!
PS. All of the popcorn orders were sent home this week. If you ordered popcorn but did not receive it, please give the school a call 403-777-6860
