Principal's Message

March 2020

Did you know that spring begins with the vernal equinox, which always occurs on March 19, 20, or 21. This year it will fall on March 19, 2020. On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. With the spring equinox, we will begin to enjoy the increasing sunlight hours, with earlier dawns and later sunsets. Though we may enjoy more daylight, we can still have many cold days so please continue to bundle your child up for all kids of weather. A friendly reminder that we have a lost and found box just in the school hall and you are welcome to drop by to check the contents for any hats, mitts, coats and scarves that may have gone missing since December. After spring break, we will donate the contents of our lost and found and start collecting the spring items until the end of June when we will once again donate the remains to a worthy cause before we leave for summer break.
During the middle of the month of February, the parents went out of their way to show their appreciation for the Hidden Valley staff by providing us with delicious foods and sweets including a luncheon on the Feb 11, 2020. It was a wonderful week of scrumptious foods and on behalf of all the staff here at Hidden Valley School, I would like to say merci and thank you to the Parent Care Program and all the parents who participated in making and bringing us such delicious items to feast on! We had permanent smiles on our faces all week and felt the love and appreciation. The Hidden Valley parent community really treats the staff at Hidden Valley very well and that is why so many of us come here and never want to leave.
During February, we participated in Valentine’s Day, Pink Shirt Day and ‘La semaine du carnival”. We always celebrate Carnival week at Hidden Valley because our school is a very special school that offers both the Regular English program and the French Immersion program! During Carnival, we learned about French Canadian culture while doing some art, door decorating, dressing up, eating maple syrup on snow/ice, reading and writing about French Canadian traditions and enjoying a fine arts performance of good ole French Canadian fiddling and singing with Folklofolie! It was a great week of activities and we even had a visit from Bonhomme Carnival who came out from Quebec to celebrate with the kids. It was fun to celebrate French Canadian culture with all the kids at Hidden Valley School.
We hope you all sign up for Student Led Conferences this month. This interview evening and morning is when your child’s learning is showcased as he or she brings you around the classroom and shows you all they have learned so far this year. The kids love doing this and I hope to see all of you there to see learning in action!
