Important Dates

We follow the CBE Traditional Calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

Planning is underway for what the 2020-21 school year will look like for our students, staff and families. The CBE has created an internal task force with representatives from every service unit to lead the planning for different scenarios. All of our decisions will be guided by the advice of the province’s chief medical officer of health and Alberta Education guidelines. The safety and well being of our students and staff will come first in any decisions we make. More information will be provided to families before the first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020.

Noon Supervision

Grade 1-4 students staying for lunch will be required to pay noon supervision fees. These fees cover adult supervision during the lunch hour -- while they are eating lunch inside the school and while they are playing outside at lunch recess.

For more information visit our Noon Supervision page.

Assigned Teachers

Teachers will be calling parents on August 28, 29 and 30, 2019 to introduce themselves as the students’ homeroom teacher. At this time, parents are requested to provide transportation, legal, and medical information to teachers, as the safety and health of all students is our priority. We want to ensure that on the first day of school, the teacher and school is aware of all important student information.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Please meet your teacher at the back (south) compound.

Registration Information

Currently, Highwood School conducts a lottery for acceptance into kindergarten and grade one. As such, there are wait lists for these grades. For acceptance into Grades 2-4, students are required to complete a test to ensure that they are
reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending Mandarin at grade level expectations. Acceptance into these grades is also dependent on space availability.

Please visit our How to Register page for registration details and forms.

Do You Have a MyCBE / PowerSchool Parent Account?

Parents who have not already done so, must create an account in MyCBE / PowerSchool to:

  • Pay fees or apply for a waiver

  • Register for transportation and noon supervision

  • View student progress

To create a new account, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe and click on Create Parent Account. You will need to have your child(ren)’s CBE Student ID Number and use your email on file at the school.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families after the start of the school year in September and October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2020-21 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in May. While CBE Transportation continues to accept pre-registrations, these will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving.

Yellow school bus route maps are posted on the CBE website: www.cbe.ab.ca/busstop

In September, a confirmation email will be sent to all parents/guardians who have submitted a pre-registration, if the parent/guardian has subscribed to receive messages. It will include transportation fee information (if applicable) and payment options (if applicable). Families can cancel their pre-registration with no financial penalty using MyCBE / PowerSchool by Sept. 30, 2020.

More information about 2020-21 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.
