Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

Oki/Tansi welcome to a new school year at Piitoayis Family School. I am very excited and honored to be appointed Principal at PFS. My entire educational career has lead me here, where I feel I can best support Indigenous children achieve a strong educational foundation. My educational philosophy focuses on creating a safe learning space where our children can establish a love of learning, while incorporating our cultural practices and maintaining our traditional values and belief systems.

I am excited to introduce to our Leadership Team:

Ms. Meagan Lundgren as our Assistant Principal. Meagan brings an abundance of leadership and learning knowledge and expertise to our school. She is passionate and eager to learn about our Indigenous ways.

Ms. Theresa KsiistsikomippI’kssaakii McDonnell continues as a Learning Leader, Indigenous Education. She brings valuable curriculum, pedagogical, and assessment expertise, as well as her traditional Cree teachings from her home reserve of Thunder Child First Nation.

Katie Carter joins the PFS family team as our Math Coach. Calgary Board of Education Math Strategy envisions each student will participate in active, rigorous mathematical learning. Katie’s role will support teachers to build lessons with strong mathematical understanding for students to build a life-long love of mathematics.

We will also have wonderful additions and movement to our teaching staff. Ms. Nancy Turner will join the grade 1/2 team, she is of Metis decent with strong ties and teachings to her people. All are expert teachers who are excited and passionate about teaching, learning, and our PFS students.

Piitoayis Family School is very grateful to be a recipient of the School Nutrition Program. This program will provide a nutritious breakfast program with fresh fruits and vegetables, various sources of protein and carbohydrates, and a daily milk program. We are equally grateful to Brown Bagging of Canada, Hope Mission, Alex House, and Meals on Wheels for the delicious lunch provided Monday through Thursday. We also have the Weekends and More program continuing this year. If you and your family are interested in receiving a nutritious snack bag each week please call Ms. Meagan Lundgren, Assistant Principal.

We are looking forward to a great start and wonderful learning year! Student return to school Tuesday, September 4th.
