​Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.​​​

Our School Philosophy

Teachers at RTA create learning activities that assist with the personalized development of the individual abilities and talents of our students. A focus on teaching and learning emphasizes the core academic subjects, as well as complementary disciplines and physical education. Teachers offer a variety of extracurricular and co-curricular activities designed to enrich and to nurture the lives of our students. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities and to strive to be the best that they can be and to achieve excellence in their daily learning.

Homework

To promote the development of effective study habits, we encourage students, in collaboration with their parents, to set up an environment that fosters regular home study and daily reading.

In Division II (Grades 5 and 6), particular sections of a project or a multi-faceted assignment may be given in advance for homework. Students are also expected to complete missed or unfinished classroom work. In addition, students should make reading a daily part of their home study routine. Supervised time on the internet, researching areas of study being covered at school is also a valuable homework experience. Suggested study time for homework is 20 – 30 minutes daily.

In Division III (Grades 7, 8, and 9), homework expectations may increase. Students may be assigned daily homework for up to one hour. Supervised time on the Internet, researching areas of study being covered at school is also a valuable homework experience. Daily reading should also continue at these grade levels. Students requiring additional instruction or support may contact their teacher to schedule a meeting for assistance with their studies.

​Middle Years at the CBE

Middle years learning refers to education offered to students between the ages of 10-15. These years are critical in keeping our students on the path to high school completion and their career futures. Keys for student success include: participating in hands-on, purposeful and relevant learning; creating positive relationships with peers, teachers and other adults; and being actively involved in the community and feeling supported by family, businesses and other organizations that surround them.

​Exploring Career Choices

For Grades 5 to 9 at the CBE, we offer Career & Technology Foundations (CTF). This is an inquiry-based, hands-on program that focuses on essential skills common to occupational areas, and our students personalize their learning based on their interests and passions.​​​
