Remembrance Day Ceremony – Friday, November 8th – 10:30 a.m.
We invite our Ron Southern Families and community to join us at our Remembrance Day ceremony. We also invite any of our families who have served in the military past and present to proudly wear their uniforms to the ceremony. This includes our cadets and reservists.

Family House Groups
On Friday October 18th, students will again split into groups consisting of kindergarten to grade 6 students. The purpose of our family house groups the week is to introduce our wellness goal for the year, increasing empathy.  If you have your volunteer clearance and would like to be a part of this experience, please email Lea Mackenzie at ronsouthern@cbe.ab.ca

Enhanced Classroom Supports for Students
The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) provides enhanced classroom supports to students. Throughout the year, professionals from speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy will be visiting our classrooms. These visits may include observing students’ work, interacting with students in large or small groups and working with teachers to support all students. Please refer to the back of this letter for additional examples of the type of work these professionals engage in at our school.
If our school learning team feels that your child would benefit from additional support, then the teacher, or another member of the learning team, will contact you.
This model of support reflects our belief in the importance of each student’s success throughout their learning journey. You and your child are at the center of this journey. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Shaping the Future of High Schools
As part of the CBE’s commitment to continuous improvement and supporting student success, we need to balance enrolment among our high schools to provide all students with a variety of course options, extracurricular activities, athletics and arts opportunities.
Twenty high schools throughout Calgary will be part of this engagement. Within the next five years, the CBE will have ten high schools operating at more than 100 per cent of their capacity, while seven high schools will be operating between 50 and 85 per cent of their capacity. Only three high schools will be operating within the balanced range of 85-100 per cent.
Students who were in grade 6 in 2018-2019 will be impacted by the decisions. Parents are invited to attend sessions and/or provide feedback online by following this link: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/get-involved/public-engagement/Pages/High-School-Engagement.aspx

RS 2019-20 Calendar – Our full year calendar can be found on our web page under the ‘About Us’ tab. http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/RonSouthern/Pages/default.aspx

Attendance Line/Lates  - If your child will be absent or late, we need to know! Please phone 403-817-3576 ext. 1 or email ronsouthern@cbe.ab.ca.

Empathy: We have to be in touch with our own feelings in order to understand someone else's.
