Principal's Message

Year End Message

June has been a bustling month at Royal Oak School! We began the month with a beautiful tribute to our volunteers. The gym was filled with beautiful music, readings and messages of thanks from all grade levels. I am truly thankful for the Royal Oak School community and their dedication to volunteering. Your time and efforts sincerely make this school an incredible place to learn every day. June continued with over 270 students riding their bike on Bike to School Day, the Grade 1s going on a Zoo adventure and the Grade 3s going to StoryBook Theatre and the National Music Centre. June is another example of how much we have to be proud of as a learning community.
At Royal Oak School, we practice the Circle of Courage philosophy. One of the characteristics of the Circle of Courage is generosity. On behalf of Ms. Sparks I would like to say a huge thank-you to the school community for your thoughtfulness following her Brother and Mom’s passing. The generosity that was demonstrated through Loonies for Lynn, cards, words of support and gifts was tremendous. We were able to present a cheque to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary for $776 in honour of Ms. Sparks’ brother. Thank you for your kindness.
There will be some staffing changes this fall.
We will be saying goodbye to a few staff members and we wish them the best of luck as they continue their careers with the Calgary Board of Education. Ms. Wannamaker (Literacy Teacher) and Mr. Pereira (Grade 1) will conclude their temporary contracts at the end of June. We offer congratulations to Ms. Rutland (Grade 3) who is excited to start a new position teaching at Marlborough School in September. Ms. Mann-Ryan’s (Educational Assistant) causal position will conclude at the end of June, and Ms. Gummer (Educational Assistant) will be moving on to W.D. Pratt next year. We will miss all of these staff members and their enthusiasm for learning and dedication to young students!
We are also excited to welcome a new staff member to our teaching team. Ms. Jen Fournier will be joining us in September as a member of the Grade 3 teaching team. Last year, Ms. Fournier taught at Eric Harvie School in Tuscany and she is very passionate about fostering positive learning environments were students can flourish. She comes with a vibrant backgound in Visual Communications and Literacy and we look forward to her joining the Royal Oak School Community.
