Learning Commons at the CBE

Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

The Labo Créo at Sam Livingston School

Students at Sam Livingston School are encouraged to visit our Learning Commons – the “Labo Créo as we affectionally call it” – whenever they need new books to read! Students can borrow one book or four books at a time and can keep them for as long as they need them; or they can return them the very next day! We have a huge selection of French and English books just waiting to be signed out.

The Labo Créo is a place where students come to share their learning with each other and discover new things! At Sam Livingston School, we are committed to creating spaces for students to gather, investigate, and experiment. Over the past two years, we have been transforming our library into a Learning Commons as a way to help our students unleash their creativity through meaningful work!

The vision for our Learning Commons embraces the numerous ways in which our students are engaged at school with a re-imagination of the various “spaces” in the school, both inside and out. The goal of our transformation is to meet and exceed the needs of the 21st Century Learner and to promote success for all students. We believe that we are well on our way to doing that, as we see students explore their world in creative ways while  they are challenged to solve problems, be innovative, and think critically about the things that are important to their learning and to their lives. Our Labo-Créo allows our staff, students and community to engage in hands-on based curriculum design, learn first-hand about new and cutting-edge tools and techniques in creativity and artistic expression, and to engage further in interdisciplinary learning.
