Principal's Message

Principal’s Message
Hello SWL Families,
Our school Remembrance Day Assembly will take place tomorrow at 10:00 am and parents are welcome to attend.  This assembly is dedicated to those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms and safeguard democracy across the globe.  This provides you with an excellent opportunity to talk with your student about citizenship and the need to contribute in making our country and world a better place.  Students will remain silent during this assembly and are to arrive at school in formal uniform.  Special thanks to all the students who have put in considerable time and energy to prepare for this assembly and to Mr. Taylor, Ms. Palleschi and Ms. Rydahl for their tremendous work to prepare them.
Our SWL soccer teams managed to conclude the season with several games of play in spite of the early snowfall.  We are waiting to hear if our volleyball teams made the playoffs; the games have been very exciting!  I wanted to congratulate Ms. Elwenni and her Environmental Stewardship students for looking into providing our students with Eco-Friendly, Stainless Steel, SWL reusable water bottles. These students wrote grant proposals to various agencies and special recognition goes out to Shannel, Zartash, Krish and Jeet  for being the winning grant writers with The Educational Partnership Foundation. This Foundation has provided the school with $1000 to support our water bottle campaign and fund raising efforts to purchase a water bottle filling station.  I am very proud of these students and countless other students who take initiative to strengthen our school, our society and protect our planet.
Our grade 6 and 7 students enjoyed a spooky and fun-filled Haunted House tour last week; thank you Leadership 9 and Mr. Cousin for scaring them and making the dance and move event so much fun.
A reminder that Monday is Remembrance Day and school is closed.  Parent-Student-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Nov. 20. and 21 and a notice will be sent home soon to let you know when our booking system will open.  We look forward to seeing you.
Enjoy the rest of your week, remember to have your son/daughter check the lost and found if they are missing items.
Sincerely Yours, Mr. Martin
