Principal's Message

January Principal Message

Bonjour families of Sundance School! We are very excited about our continued work together at Sundance School. The new year 2020 is here and we are almost at the second half of the school year 2019-20.  It is important to celebrate the learning community at Sundance School and to reflect on how fortunate and grateful we are.   We have wonderful students, generous parents, and a dedicated school staff at Sundance.   We continue to see students develop their citizenship skills. We have many students who have signed up to be part of various clubs/groups in the school. Some of our clubs include but are not limited to: School Patrols, N’Step, Choir for Grades 2/3 and 4-6, Drama, Games, Netball, Knitting, Zentangles, Student Leadership Group. The members of our recycling club bring awareness to the importance of the 3 Rs; reduce, reuse and recycle. Our Student Leadership Group will be working with the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. This book is written by Sean Covey (Stephen Covey's son) and is based on his father's well renowned work The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The 7 Habits help develop leadership skills with student friendly language and strengthen a Growth Mindset with young children to support our Well-Being for Learning Goal in our School Development Plan. The students in our Leadership Group will be representing their class and will bring back what they have learned to their class for their classroom teacher to follow up with all of the students. Our Student Leadership Group will also be initiating whole school initiatives that will help us involve and give back to our school community. Did you know that Sundance School comprises of 11 different communities?  Building a sense of community and school spirit is important to us and we have some upcoming events that will bring students, parents and staff together as we celebrate community. On Wednesday, February 12, our School Council social committee is organizing an evening of activities to celebrate Carnaval. On Monday, January 20 registration opened for Kindergarten and grade one new registrations. We encourage all families to register as soon as possible. The open house powerpoint is posted on our school website for further information and resources. Early French Immersion website page We are looking forward to meeting our many new families coming to Sundance. Sincerely, Mme Micheline and Mme Melanie
