Principal's Message

Welcome to Spring!

Our school hallways and main areas have been recently painted when you and your student come for math games night Apr. 23rd please take the time to view our new look!
Leadkidz will be cancelled for the next 3 weeks as all students are participating in gymnastics. Please ensure your student has appropriate clothing and long hair tied back.
At the beginning of the academic year, our staff looked at student data from the previous year and found a need to improve in learning of how to model, represent and communicate our mathematical ideas. Teachers have worked with our Math Coach, Ms. Wu in explicitly teaching relationships, progressions and communication skills of mathematical concepts and numerical reasoning through daily discourse and by designing rigorous tasks that allow students multiple entry points in their learning.
Teachers have had a chance to review student progress through our January report cards, and we have found that we are on track to achieving our learning goal in improving upon these areas. Our teaching staff will be calibrating student assessment with Hawkwood School on Apr. 22nd , to validate and strengthen our accuracy in assessment and reporting. We will continue to support our learners through further looking at how differentiated learning progression is shared and enacted based on student learning evidence for our teachers, look at alternative ways exploring and assessing of learning in math. We look forward to sharing some of these strategies with our families on Math Games Night -April 23.
Another area our teaching staff found a need to improve in was around Non-Fiction Writing. Teachers have been giving students opportunities to develop, organize and express ideas in Non-Fiction Writing. Teachers and students have had opportunities to develop professionally in Non-Fiction Writing, and create authentic learning tasks for students with feedback to continually improve their writing/communication.
After reviewing our progress up to this point we see that we are on track to achieving this learning goal for our students. We will continue to support our students' learning by providing more non-fiction writing opportunities and with effective feedback, build confidence in our writing. We will also calibrate with our teaching staff, looking at student working and aligning them with our Program of Studies.
Today we completed another successful lockdown practice with our students. Please take the time to discuss this experience with your students.
