We’re proud of our school and like to share our spirit.

Sharing Assemblies

Throughout the school year we invite parents and guardians to celebrate their child’s learning at assemblies. There will also be opportunities for parents to attend celebrations or external school wide performances. Watch for the dates of these events to be published in the newsletter and on the school calendar page.

Welcome Back Fiesta

Each year (for the past 3 years), we have celebrated the start of the school year and welcomed students and their families to our school by having a Welcome Back Fiesta. Sponsored by our School Council, a continental breakfast and entertainment is provided at no cost to everyone.

This is also an opportunity for parents to meet their child's teacher and other members of our staff. Our Parent volunteers plan this event all summer, and will certainly be an awesome way to start the new school year.

Halloween - La Noche De Brujas

Halloween translated in Spanish is "La noche de brujas" (the night of the witches).  This is generally a time where we focus specifically on the Spanish culture component of our school by looking at how Halloween is recognized in some Hispanic countries. It is very much a day of learning where we engage our students in class "buddy" activities.

Children will be welcome to wear their ‘typical’ school clothes or have the option of wearing orange and black clothes, or modified Halloween costumes (which adhere to dress code, and that are not ‘scary’ or ‘gory’).

A separate letter will be coming outlining what the afternoon (morning for AM kindergarten) will look like specifically.

Veterans Food Drive

Last year our school collected $6000 worth of food items. That’s over 3000 pieces of food collected. We filled up the back, the cab and the front seats of 2 pickup trucks! Lets see if we can match it this year!

Jacket Racket

Each year in the fall, our school collects gently used jackets to be donated to kids and mostly anyone else that need help getting bundled up in warm winter gear. Please contact our school office for more information on this program and dates when the donations will be collected.

Christmas Hamper

In keeping with the spirit of generosity that W.O.Mitchell students and their families show every day, we will be collecting money to provide a ‘little something extra’ for some of our W.O.Mitchell families who may need a little help at Christmas time. A collection time will be announced and contributions will be collected in the classrooms. If your family would like to contribute, any donation would be appreciated–a loonie or toonie would be great!

Christmas Cards for Meals on Wheels

Calgary Meals-on-Wheels means more than just food to Calgary's elderly. For many meal recipients, the meal deliverer is the only other person they see all day and becomes one of few remaining links to the outside world. Each delivery is a welcome event that conveys they are not forgotten. One-of-a-kind holiday cards with messages written by our students personalizes a meal delivery and adds a special touch of care during this time of year.

Fill a Sock, Fill a Need

Every Christmas morning at The Drop In Centre, clients are surprised with a sock, filled with things that are useful on a day-to-day basis. Your help in providing items that fill the stockings is vital in ensuring Christmas morning has festive cheer for every Drop In client!

Here are some items clients find most useful:

  • Gloves, mitts and hats
  • Lip balm and travel size toiletries
  • Cough drops
  • Travel mugs
  • Deodorant (non-alcohol based)
  • Brush and combs
  • Socks and underwear
  • Gift certificates (i.e. Tim Horton’s or McDonalds)
  • Chocolates and candy
