Principal's Message

WAG Nov 9

Week at a Glance – Nov 9

1.      Thank you to our incredible Choir for the amazing job they did in representing Wildwood School at the Field of Crosses on Wednesday November 8.  As always we are so proud of their mastery in singing and meeting the Veterans and First Responders afterwards.  Mrs. Michayluk and Mrs. Barnaby are to be commended for the wonderful leadership they provided to the students and for an outstanding performance.

2.      An outstanding performance was presented by the Grade five students today at the Remembrance Day assembly.  Thank you to the students that shared their thoughts, poems, writing pieces and lovely voices to this performance.  It taught us all many things about Remembrance Day and gave us a lot to think about!  Thank you Ms. Hidalgo, Ms. Thompson and Ms. Walker for all your hard work with the students to present a clear vision of what Remembrance Day is. Well Done!!!

3.      Please join us on Monday November 12 at 6:30 for School Council.  Our Grade 6 teachers will be sharing some of the exciting tasks they are designing in their classes.  We are also going to be sharing all of our Provincial Achievement Results and looking for feedback on our School Development Plan.  Please see the following attachments: agenda for this November meeting and the minutes from the October meeting.

4.      Our exciting Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Wildwood School!   The fair is one of our major book fundraisers.  All purchases benefit our school.  This year the dates are:
·        Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 from 8:00 am - 11:30 am; 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
·        Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 from 8:00 am - 11:30 am; 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm; 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
·        Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Mrs. Bakuska is looking for adult volunteers who can help at the Book Fair on Friday, November 23.  Volunteer positions include cash table, poster/school accessories, credit/debit machine assistance, and pack up after 12:00 pm Friday.  If you are available, even for 1 hour, please contact her at hibakuska@cbe.ab.ca.  Thank you.
       5.      Have you ordered your November Festive Foods yet?  The order is up on the Healthy Hunger website (www.healthyhunger.ca) and the deadline to order is November 22nd.  We will be having Boston Pizza on November 29th and there are a lot of tasty options!  If you have any question on how to order, please contact Stacey at staceyzurburg@shaw.ca.

        6.      WE Crush Hunger In Calgary, approximately 180,000 people use the food bank. More than 1/3 of this number are children. WE Crush Hunger is WE Teams' food drive for the Veteran's Food Bank and the Mayor's Food Drive. It will take place between Monday, November 12th and Thursday, November 22nd. Classes should collect non-perishable food items, Halloween treats in a small bag and baby food.  The class that collects the most food items will win a pizza party.  Thanks for all of your support.

       7.      Back by popular demand, Wildwood School Council is pleased to begin our Mixing Spoon fundraising campaign! The Mixing Spoon is an Alberta based fundraising company providing brownie, soup, chili, cookie and scone mixes. All products are created from fresh, natural ingredients prepared in the traditional way. In addition, these products are dry-mixes that do not require any refrigeration!

If all of the above wasn’t exciting enough, Wildwood School receives a 40% profit from every mix sold. The campaign will commence on November 9th for two weeks. In order for our products to be ready for the holiday season, all orders must be returned to the school by November 23rd. The order will be submitted the night of November 23rd so unfortunately no late orders will be accepted. Please have all cheques made out to “Wildwood School Council”. Thank you as always for your continued support in making our school a better place.

Family Time

Have your child share the Remembrance Day assembly that was performed today.   What did your child observe and what did they learn that they did not know before?  Maybe as a family you would like to join Remembrance Day events in Calgary on Sunday November 11.  Here is just one example of the many places you can go.  https://www.todocanada.ca/things-to-do-on-remembrance-day-in-calgary/
