Shift 180. Together. Forward.

​As I began to think about the upcoming 2019-20 school year with great excitement, my thoughts kept returning to the amazing opportunity we, as teachers, are given to work with your children. Each school year, we are given 180 days to get to know your children, as learners and as developing individuals. 180 days to learn about their hopes and dreams, their curiosities and also their fears. We are given 180 days to build relationships and trust with our students, through the curriculum we teach, but more importantly through the daily interactions in our learning community (that some may not consider relevant to the schooling experience.) 180 days to better understand the hopes and dreams you have for your children. We are given 180 days to continue to build and strengthen our school community--180 days to begin a movement of what is possible together.  We are given 180 days to make a shift. I will pause there for a moment to ask you to reflect. 180 days is significant. 180 degrees moves us from one point to another. 180 days of possibilities, of exciting learning, of growth, together, forward.  Just imagine what we can do in 180 days!










So, as we enter into the 2019-20 school year together, I have challenged my staff with one simple question, “What shift will you lead?”






















On the first day of school, as I bring our students together in the gymnasium, I will pose this same question to them, “What shift do you want to be part of? What shift will you lead?”





























And now, with you, my students’ families, I will pose this very same question to you, “For 180 days, what shift do you want to see for your child at A.E. Cross and how will you join with us in making it all happen?"
