Dates to Remember

Principal's Message

Oct. 9-12, 2018

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend - whatever that means to you - be it a traditional Thanksgiving meal, extra time with friends and family, a bit of extra time to relax, the opportunity to take on a special project or something else. I do hope you take some time to reflect on all you have to be thankful for and to focus on what is truly important.
This week, at school I was truly thankful that after the dump of snow on Tuesday, the weather improved enough that our Grade 4 students were able to leave for their overnight field trip on Wednesday morning and were able to sleep with the dinosaurs at the Royal Tyrrell Museum. They learned a lot, had tons of fun and had an experience they will remember for a long time to come! Thanks again to School Council who donated $25 per student to subsidize the cost of the activity.
On Friday, the teachers went to Nose Hill to spend time with our Resident Elder, Randy Bottle. While we haven’t yet had a chance to truly debrief as a staff, my own experience was an extremely positive one. For years I have been hearing about the importance of the land and stories to our indigenous peoples - but I have never had the opportunity to experience how that happened for myself. On Friday, I did and was able to start to make some more meaningful connections between the work we do at school and indigenous ways of thinking and sharing knowledge. Randy will be at the school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to meet with each of our classes. I think it will be very exciting!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Have a great week! Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help in any way!
Kelly Christopher, Principal
