Lunch Routines

At Capitol Hill School we have a new lunchroom routine to accommodate our new 50-minute lunch hour. It has been designed to accommodate smaller group sizes. In addition, because students eat in individual classrooms, we had to implement a system where some students were outside playing and others would be eating their lunch. We have 5 supervisors inside with the students and 2 supervisors and teaching staff outside on supervision. This allows us the ability for students to eat in calm, quiet spaces because there are less students in each lunch room.

11:42 AM – 12:03 PM

  • All Grade 1/2 students eat in classrooms
  • Ms. Seaman & Mrs. Evans class eat in their classrooms
  • Mr. Landra and Mrs. Kooner go outside for lunch recess
  • All Grade 5/6 students go outside for lunch recess

12:03 PM -12:30 PM

  • All Grade 1/2 students go outside for lunch recess
  • Ms. Seaman & Mrs. Evans class go outside for lunch recess
  • Mr. Landra and Mrs. Kooner come in to eat lunch
  • All Grade 5/6 students come in to eat lunch

This split lunch has reduced the number of behavioral incidents as there are less children out on the playground at one time, and more students can access a variety of play areas.

We know good nutrition aids in learning. Please send healthy lunches, snacks and water to help feed the brain.
If the children go home for lunch, teacher supervisors are outside starting at 12:15 in addition to the lunch supervisors. Children can return to school at that time.

Fun Lunches

Fun lunches are periodically scheduled and gives our students an opportunity to eat lunch, socialize with their friends at school and take part in special activities. Please ensure you have registered your child/ren with HealthyHunger.ca. For our upcoming fun lunches, please check our school Calendar.

After Lunch Playground Supervision

Students that go home for lunch should not return to play until 12:45 PM when playground supervision is available.

Leaving School Grounds During the Lunch Hour

We make it our top priority to ensure all the children are safe during school hours. With this in mind, we diligently take attendance every lunch hour to make sure all the children are present and safely accounted for.

We realize there are times when you need to speak to your child during the lunch hour, however, for safety reasons, we ask that you please check in with the school office before going on school grounds or leaving with your child.

If you are taking your child off school premises during the lunch hour, the parent/guardian is responsible for signing out their student in the school office. Students cannot be signed out by anyone who is not on the student’s Emergency Contact List and even then we must have a parent/guardian’s consent.

CBE playgrounds remain closed. We will begin re-opening on Monday, June 1. Openings will continue throughout next week. Once the yellow tape has been removed and signs say the playground is open, the equipment can be used according to health guidelines. #yycbe #WeAreCBE #yyc https://t.co/zBid3GNq26
