Year end message to families

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I can’t believe it is the last day of school! This has been an unprecedented year and one the staff at Capitol Hill School will never forget. The way students, teachers, support staff, and families rallied to ensure everyone felt safe and cared for when classes were cancelled on March 15, 2020 was heart-warming. It was not the way we expected or wanted to end the school year, but when life gave us lemons; we made lemonade! Big, beautiful buckets of lemonade!
At this time of year, we are always sad to say goodbye to the amazing staff who have worked at Capitol Hill School. This year we have many goodbyes to say.
Firstly, to our amazing TASC team; the TASC class is moving to Battalion Park School and the entire team will be moving with them. We are going to miss all our TASC friends immensely but wish them well in their new school. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication Ms. Lim, Ms. Vysokcilova, Ms. Green and Ms. Colpitts. We also have to say goodbye to Ms. Joiner who will be leaving the TASC program and moving to another school. We wish you all well and don’t forget to keep in touch.
Next, we are saying goodbye to Ms. Seaman. She is setting off on an amazing adventure! Ms. Seaman is moving to Cambodia, and will be teaching in an International School. Thank you so much for your dedication to the students and families at Capitol Hill School over the last two years. Thank you for your leadership and positivity. You are going to be missed by the entire school community. Don’t forget to send us a postcard!
At this time, we will also be saying goodbye to Ms. Caughey.  Ms. Caughey has been a wonderful asset to Capitol Hill School and I know her students are going to miss her greatly. Her caring nature and willingness to help students everyday are truly wonderful qualities to have. We wish her well and hope our paths cross again in the future.
Ms. Ott joined Capitol Hill School just at classes were cancelled on March 15, 2020. I would like to thank Ms. Ott for coming into the school as we transitioned to emergency online learning and for doing her very best to make connections with her students and for providing great learning opportunities. Good luck, Ms. Ott.
Finally, we are saying goodbye to Ms. Knaus and Ms. O’Shaughnessy.  They both joined Capitol Hill School as EA’s part way through the year and have worked so hard to get to know the students and staff. Their dedication to their students has been wonderful to see. We wish them both well for the future.
At this time, I would like to introduce you to two new staff members who will be joining our wonderful Capitol Hill Family. Firstly, Mr. Kwiatkowski, who will be joining us as a Learning Leader. He is coming to us from Cambrian Heights School, and he is very excited to meet you all. Also joining us this year is Ms. Axworthy, she is coming from Valley Creek School and we are very happy to welcome her to our school. We are looking forward to getting to know them both in September.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful parents and guardians for their dedication, commitment and support over the entire school year, but especially during the time since classes were cancelled on March 15th, 2020. Without your support we could not have continued with online learning, we are truly grateful and in your debt. You are all superhero’s!
The future is still uncertain, but the Government of Alberta is aiming for a near normal return to school in the fall. We will know more on August 1st, 2020. I will continue to keep you updated on re-entry plans for September as information is made available to us at the school. Please keep your eye on the school website, email from CBE and the school for re-entry plans.
Although, I have only been the principal at Capitol Hill School for a couple of months, I feel very lucky to have landed in such a caring community. It is a very special place and one I feel privileged to be part of. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to getting to know you and your children when we return to school in September.
Take this time to step away from being the facilitators of your children’s learning, and enjoy the summer months with your family.
Have a wonderful summer and see you in September.
Warm regards,
Hilary Wright
