January 20 - 24, 2020

Good afternoon parents/guardians:

I have noticed that many parents are struggling to access our teacher blog on our school website, so I think I will switch to weekly agenda/ updates to let you have a better idea about what we are working on. Here's how the two grade 5 classes are set up.

1. We will have weekly homework, if it not completed in class, on:

Tuesdays: Current Events

Fridays: Problem of the Week

These two assignments are guaranteed and manditory for completion.

2. Language Arts:

Students work on thier literacy for an hour a day. The first half-hour is working on writing skills and once a week they are pulled into specific, small targeted groups for both guided reading and/or word work. Student's word work group goals are currently:

Goal 1: to spell the correct spelling for high-frequency words

Goal 2: recognize that some rhyming words need different decoding strategies as they may have different spelling patterns. (right/bite, toad/code)

3. Mathematics:

Your child will be working in a math class with either myself, Ms. H., Ms. Echo, or Ms. Amanda so we are best meeting the needs of every student. You will be updated weekly by myself and Ms. H to share our learning intentions

4. Open Minds Fieldtrip:

I am still missing some students permission forms and payment. Please ensure both are in by the end of the week. Also, could you please see if you are able to volunteer? I need about three parents every day and currently only have one a day. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with you child and see how we spend our days learning! If you need to get you security clearance, please call the office for their assistance.

Any questions, don't hesitate to contact me at kljoyce@cbe.ab.ca

Sincerely,

Kimberly Joyce & Mrs. H.
