Principal's Message

August 26, 2019

Welcome to a new school year!  School will commence at 8:25 am on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, for all Grade 7 students only.  A BBQ lunch will be provided for Grade 7 students on their first day.  (School will commence at 8:25 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, for all students, Grade 7, 8 and 9).  All grade 7 students are to report to the gym where their homeroom groups will be announced.  There will be a brief assembly and then students will be escorted to their homerooms.  Parents can expect a detailed information package to be sent home with each child the first day of school.  Please complete the portions of the package that require signatures and/or student information and return them to the school as soon as possible.

We ask that students bring a pen, pencil and a three ring binder with loose-leaf paper on their first day of school.  Other supplies should be purchased after the subject teachers have outlined the needs for their individual classes.

School fees are due by Friday, September 27, 2019 (any alternate arrangements must be discussed with the school prior to this date).

Students will be issued their yearly agenda planner the first day of school.  We ask that students and parents familiarize themselves with the operational procedures that will be shared with students on the first day of school and that are outlined in the first section of the agenda (a copy of agenda is also posted on the school website – http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/clarencesansom).  Students and parents are requested to indicate that they have reviewed these procedures by signing in the space provided in the agenda.

Clarence Sansom has a 24-hour Attendance Line – 403-777-7705.  If the student will be away from school, the parent/guardian is requested to please leave a message on this line including, student name, who is calling, length of absence (morning, afternoon or all day) and reason for absence (medical appointment, dental appointment, illness, etc.)  Punctuality is very important to student success.  Students who are late will need to sign in at the office prior to attending class.  Sansom’s late policy is outlined in the student agenda planner.  Clarence Sansom also has a Homework Hotline – Dial 403-777-7700 (after 4:00 pm), once the message comes up Press 2 for Homework Hotline and follow the prompts.

Parent Orientation evening will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6:30-8:15 pm.  The first Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences will be Wednesday, October 23 and Thursday, October 24 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.  If parents have pertinent information that they wish to share, questions or concerns prior to interviews, please do not hesitate to contact the grade level team leader or our guidance counsellor.

Complementary Program/Option selections for all students will occur upon our return in September.  Option sheets will be sent home for parent consultation and signature.

Transportation for Monterey Park students is organized and coordinated through Transportation Services.  All inquiries involving eligibility, bus stops, times and other information is the responsibility of this department.  Further inquiries should be made to Transportation Services at 430-817-7433 or on the website at www.cbe.ab.ca and look under the parent tab.

There will be a newsletter and/or calendar of events issued monthly that will help support home and school communication.  Information is also available on the school website at http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/clarencesansom.  Communication can be a challenging part of any organization.  We are always striving to improve our efforts in this area.

We look forward to the coming school year and the many opportunities we can provide in supporting continued student growth and learning.

Sincerely,

Mr. R. D. Million                                   Ms. T. S. Quiring
