Students learn how to improve their artistic skills and apply the elements and principles of art. Everyone is encouraged to develop creative, original artwork that expresses their personality and point of view. Students complete a variety of long-term projects and quick Fantastic Friday Activities.

Dance

Students will explore a wide variety of rhythm, movements and dance genres. Within each genre they will be introduced to specific terminology, history, and technique as well as a routine to cap off the genre. Students will also learn and improve their choreography, execution and performance skills throughout each genre. Examples of genres are Hip-Hop, African, Afro-funk, Bollywood, Disco, Dancehall / Reggaeton, Break dancing and more. Students will use these genres to aid them in choosing and finalizing an exit project.

Drama

One of the main objectives of dramatic studies is to enhance student confidence and imagination through active expression. In this option students will explore various forms of drama through warm up games, improvisational games and exercises to improve dramatic technique. Students will be given the opportunity to take part in some if not all of the following: Monologues, duet scenes, theatre games, class skits, set and costume design and stage fighting. Students may be involved in producing the yearly school play. Come join in the fun!

Music

This is a general music program. Students will have experiences in West African Drumming, Hand bells, Keyboard, Ukulele, Recorders, Vocals and Garageband to gain a better overall understanding of the elements of music, as well as skills necessary to become a well-rounded musician. No previous experience is required as activities can be modified to any level of musical ability. Opportunities will be available to showcase skills learned in this class in the Musical Theatre Production, Fine Arts Show and Talent Show.
