Volunteers & Visitors

For security reasons, all volunteers and visitors must sign in at the office before going into the school. This process helps us know where you are in case of an emergency and allows staff and students to know you have signed in with the office staff by wearing your volunteer/visitor badge.

In order to ensure school security, all exterior doors will be locked after school commences each day at 9:10 AM. Anyone needing entry during the school day must do so through the office–this includes parents and students. Anyone who is not a student or Elboya School staff member is required to sign-in.

Student Sign-Out & Leaving School During the Day

The parent/guardian is responsible for signing out their student in the school office. Students cannot be signed out by anyone who is not on the student’s Emergency Contact List and even then we must have a parent/guardian’s consent.

Students need to bring a note giving the time the student has to be in the Main Office to meet his/her parent. It is the student’s responsibility to make the teacher aware at the beginning of the period of the time when s/he needs to leave. This procedure reduces disruptions to classes, waiting time for parents and limits extra work for the Main Office staff.

Student Supervision

For the protection and safety of children, the Alberta School Act and the Calgary Board of Education require that students be supervised at school. This requirement is stringent for Kindergarten through Grade 6 students.

Kindergarten to Grade 6
Student supervision begins at 8:55 AM. Students should not arrive prior to that time. Once students have been dismissed for the day, they are expected to move off the grounds and be on their way home.

Grades 7 to 9
Students in Grades 7-9 should arrive at comparable times. Students at school before 8:55 AM or after 3:50 PM must be under the direct supervision of a teacher.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school via SchoolMessenger.
