Attendance Line: 403-777-7760 ext. 1

In the event of student absence, the parent/guardian is asked to call the school and leave a message no later than 8:30 AM on the day of absence. This messaging system is available 24/7.

Please leave the following information:

  • name of student(s)
  • grade(s)
  • teacher(s)
  • reason for absence or lateness
  • length of absence if known

Attendance will be taken each morning and afternoon, and in cases where the parent/guardian has not informed the school, every effort will be made to contact the parent/guardian to verify the absence.

Students should talk to their teachers on the day of return to school.

Punctuality

Punctuality is expected and respectful of other students, staff and the learning environment. If arriving after 9:10 AM or 1:21 PM, students must stop at the Main Office, register and obtain a late slip. Students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 speak directly to the receptionist. Students in Grades 5-9 register in the late book.

Homeroom

Homeroom is a key part of Elboya School. Students are expected to be seated inside their homeroom when the bell rings.

Student Sign-Out

Learn about our student sign-out procedures on our Security page.

Early Dismissal of Individual Students

A student may not leave the school prior to regular dismissal times until someone in authority is contacted to give permission.

Students needing to leave for medical or dental appointments or other reasons must bring a note or the parent must contact the school requesting early dismissal. It is the student's responsibility to make the teacher aware at the beginning of the period of the time when they need to leave. This procedure reduces disruptions to classes, waiting time for parents and limits extra work for the school office staff.

Parents/guardians need to sign students out from the office.

Extended Absences

In the case of extended illnesses, work is excused. Students and parents are asked to speak with an administrator if a student becomes seriously ill. If a student will be away for more than one week, s/he is asked to obtain an extended absence form from the Main Office, complete it and have teachers sign it before the absence begins. Extended absences are not beneficial to student academic progress.

Please note that homework is not provided before extended absences. Instead, students are expected to consult D2L or the teacher’s blog to remain current and negotiate appropriate deadlines with their teacher. It is a student’s responsibility to contact their teachers upon returning from an absence. Students are expected to make up missed work in a reasonable time.
