Ballet 15 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Audition with Ballet Instructor

Content:  Students will be introduced to the art of ballet with an emphasis on learning basic technique and style.  Students will follow a set syllabus, which includes barre, centre floor, set dances, and character work.  Students will be taught different ballet combinations and choreography to be presented in a final dance production.

Ballet 25 (5 credits) 

Prerequisite Standard:  Ballet 15

Content:  Students will continue their development in ballet and will be able to demonstrate their ballet technique at a high level.  Students will follow a set syllabus, which includes barre, centre floor, set dances and character work.  Students will work within a group to choreograph and refine a ballet routine.  Students will be taught a variety of ballet combinations and choreography to be presented in a final dance production.

Ballet 35  (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Ballet 25

Content:  Students are expected to achieve and understand a high level of ballet technique and presentation.  Students will follow a set syllabus, which includes a series of ballet dances portraying classical, contemporary, lyrical, and character styles.  Students will choreograph and refine a ballet routine.  Students will be taught a variety of dance combinations and choreography to be presented in a final dance production.

Dance 15 (5 credits)

No Prerequisite Required

Content:  Students will develop personal, social, physical, creative and kinesthetic skills through the study of movement.  Students will be introduced to a variety of basic dance techniques and dance styles such as hip hop, classical ballet, jazz, lyrical and tap/rhythmic.  They will be taught a variety of dance combinations and choreography.  Students will be given a chance to be involved in a final dance production.

Dance 25 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Dance 15 65% or higher.

Content:  Students will continue their development and be able to demonstrate basic dance techniques at a high level.  Students will work within a group to choreograph and refine a dance routine that may be performed at the end of the semester.

Dance 35 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Dance 25; 65% or higher .

Content:  Students are expected to achieve and understand a high level of dance techniques with the ability to teach these techniques to their peers.  They will choreograph and produce an entire dance that will be part of our final dance production.  Students will also be involved in performance opportunities at Ernest Manning.

Students will study the history of dance, terminology and technical theatre.
