Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Homework

Teachers assign homework for students with the expectation that is returned by the deadline. If your child is having difficulty with the homework, please speak with the teacher as soon as you can. All homework should be achievable and your child should be able to do the work independently. If this is not the case, please speak with the teacher.

Exploring Studies

There are a wide variety of exploratories to allow students a wide range of experiences:

  • Design Studies which includes an element of Robotics
  • Band - Instrumental Music, Choral
  • Leadership
  • Performing Arts
  • Art and Creative Arts
  • High Performance Fitness, Outdoor Education
  • Digital Photography
  • Business
  • Foods
  • Construction
  • Sports Medicine
  • Exploration in Film

There is a tradition of pride in the focus on athletics. Teachers work hard to provide extracurricular programs for our students.

There is a supervised lunchroom program for Grade 6 and the Paced Learning Program. We have a cafeteria with a Foods Services Supervisor who provides the students with delicious, healthy foods that appeal to any hungry teenager.

Other Programs Offered

  • 2 LEAD classes to support learners with limited schooling experience
  • Paced Learning Program (PLP)

Middle Years at the CBE

Middle years learning refers to education offered to students between the ages of 10-15. These years are critical in keeping our students on the path to high school completion and their career futures. Keys for student success include: participating in hands-on, purposeful and relevant learning; creating positive relationships with peers, teachers and other adults; and being actively involved in the community and feeling supported by family, businesses and other organizations that surround them.

Learn more about our students in their middle years, including how their learning will change and how you can support your child, visit the CBE website.

Exploring Career Choices

For Grades 5 to 9 at the CBE, we offer Career & Technology Foundations (CTF). This is an inquiry-based, hands-on program that focuses on essential skills common to occupational areas, and our students personalize their learning based on their interests and passions.

Are we Seeds, Sprouts or Trees as a way to understand and use assessment. I love that there is no way to say nothing is planted at all - assumption we all have some knowledge. @ettiennalafferty #cbeindigenoused
