NOVEMBER UPDATES!!!!

Wow....can you believe it's already NOVEMBER?????  And did you know...it's only 6 weeks until Christmas?!?!?!  The year is flying by.

I want to give a huge shout-out to the ADVANCED CHOIR, who did a beautiful job of opening the Remembrance Day Assembly last week with our national anthem, and a piece called "One Wish".  These students worked hard to learn a difficult song, and sang it wonderfully.  Well done!

MUSIC CLUBS (winter choir, advanced choir, and handbells) are continuing, as we all prepare for upcoming Winter performances - including the upcoming winter concert!  Watch for more information to come home soon (dates, times, what students should wear, etc.).

In music class, the GRADE 1, GRADE 2, GRADE 2/3, GRADE 3 and SKILL classes are all busily preparing for our upcoming WINTER CONCERT!!!!  It is happening in exactly one month...on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13th!   There will be two performances - one in the morning during the normal school day, and one in the evening (starting at 6:30). More details will be added to this blog, as well as to classroom blogs soon.

GRADE 4 and GRADE 5 classes have been preparing to play RECORDERS!  Thanks for sending forms back and helping us to get organized quickly.  The order has been placed and we are just waiting for the recorders to arrive so we can dive in!  We have been working on reading notes of the treble clef to help prepare, and were checking out a game that would be a fun way for students to practice notes at home.  The game is called "Word Warrior".

CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT!

GRADE 5/6 classes have been learning a classic Canadian Rock song and are hoping to finish up and film our performance next week to submit to the CBC Music Class Challenge!  If you haven't sent the consent form back, please get it in THIS WEEK so we can prepare for filming!

PLP classes have started working on a musical story that we hope to perform for another class!  So far we have learned the part for Resonator Bells.  We will be adding more instruments this week!

WELCOME TO MUSIC!!!

It has been a fantastic first month of music classes here at EMJ!  Now that we are feeling a little more settled in, it is time to start up some MUSIC CLUBS!!!

Over the next few months, I'll be holding 3 clubs which have been made available to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6.  Younger students, don't worry...there will be opportunities for you in the Spring!

Winter Choir - This club is open to all Grade 4, 5 and 6 students who are interested in singing and preparing for some performances in December!  We will meet every Wednesday over the lunch break to rehearse, starting on October 10th. If your child is interested, they should be bringing a form for parents/guardians to sign next week!

Advanced Choir - This club is open to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 who are ready for an extra challenge... more difficult music, and more performances, starting with the Remembrance Day Assembly in November.  We will meet every Thursday over the lunch break to rehearse, starting on October 11th.  If your child is interested, they should be bringing a form for parents/guardians to sign next week!

Handbells - This club is for a small number of students from Grades 4, 5 and 6 who are ready for the fun and exciting challenge of learning handbells, and who are able to stay for an after school rehearsal every Tuesday, starting October 16th. Many students indicated that they were interested, however only 12 students will be selected to be in the club.  Forms will come home next week for those students.
