Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Pedestrian Safety

We have had an alarming number of incidents where vehicles have narrowly missed hitting a child and/or parent jaywalking in the streets around the school. Thanks to drivers’ diligence, we have been extremely lucky and have avoided what could have been a devastating tragedy for our community. We need parents to help out and do their part. No matter where you park, PLEASE take your child to the nearest corner; wait until traffic in all directions has come to a complete stop, and then cross. They are all our children and their lives are not worth the time saved by crossing in the middle of the street.

Did you know that U-Turns are Not permitted anywhere around Evergreen School?  U-Turns interrupt the flow of traffic, put parents and children in crosswalks at greater risk and, especially during winter months, are extremely dangerous as roads are slippery and visibility is reduced.  The fine for making an illegal U-Turn is $115.00 dollars.  Please help us keep our families safe and drive the extra block to make your turn.  If you observe someone speeding or making an illegal U-Turn you can note their license plate number and report that concern to the Calgary Police Service here

Drop and Drive Zones

Please note that we have two drop zones around the school. During morning drop off and afternoon pick up parents can pull up to the curb and either drop off or pick their child up; vehicles cannot be parked for any amount of time or be left unattended on Everstone Drive or on Eversyde Close past the entrance to the staff parking lot between 8:00-9:00 am and 2:30-4:00 pm. The area in front of our school is designated for our school buses and delivery vehicles only, please do not pull into our bus zone during school hours. Failure to observe city of Calgary parking bi-laws can result in a fine of up to $68.

Staff will be outside at 8:15 am to supervise as students walk to the school grounds. For safety and health, we encourage students to walk or ride to school whenever possible.

Parking Lot

Please remember the parking lot is reserved for staff. We do not have enough space for parents to pick up and drop off in the staff parking lot. When at all possible, we discourage pedestrians from walking through the parking lot as there are staff members and School Board personnel arriving and leaving throughout the day, making it unsafe for pedestrians. Please use sidewalks and pathways around the school.

Being a good Neighbour

We have had a number of community members complain about Evergreen parents blocking driveways, and parking in driveways before and after school. This is a huge inconvenience for Evergreen Community Members. Please be respectful of these families and do not block driveways at any time.

School and Community Safety

Several members of the Evergreen community have been corresponding with our Councillor, Diane Colley-Urquhart’s office over the last year in hopes of obtaining lights for the cross-walk at the corner of Everstone Drive and Fish Creek Boulevard.  This process has not been a simple one and we are seeking your help in obtaining the information we need to support our request.  We are asking that if you witness any unsafe behaviour, near misses or traffic concerns that you please email these events with as much detail as possible (ie:  date, time, location, make/model of the vehicle) including a description of the even that transpired to eversafety1st@gmail.com.   All submissions will remain anonymous and will be collected and provided to Ms. Colley-Urquhart’s office to support our goal for our pedestrian light request.  All questions or concerns regarding this initiative can also be sent to eversafety1st@gmail.com.   We thank you in advance for helping make our children’s school and community safe.
