Principal's Message

Message on Mar 13

Today Erick Noriega and I made a school wide announcement over the P.A system about COVID-19 in a child-friendly language that supports the message from Alberta Health Services that the contagious risk is low in Alberta.

We reminded students to:

Wash their hands for 15-20 seconds and if they want to sing happy birthday in either English or Spanish for the duration of the task
Respect personal space amongst each other
Avoid touching their faces with unwashed hands and
if they are sick, to stay at home

We also shared all adults are all working together to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.  To this end, CBE and our school have postponed events such as:
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Science Fair and Science Olympics and
Book Fair

We understand that many parents have many questions at this time.  Please know that CBE is actively seeking direction from Alberta Health Services.  We will provide you with the best information we have at that time on an ongoing basis.  I have received many e-mails with positive and supportive feedback, as well as suggestions.  As always, we welcome suggestions and feedback. Each e-mail is considered, and if required, it is passed on onto CBE.

We appreciate you visiting the CBE FAQ before calling the school at this time. The website is: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/about-us/school-culture-and-environment/health-and-wellness-in-school/Pages/coronavirus-faqs.aspx

Please know that CBE is working directly with AHS and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA). We have also set up an internal task force to address necessary planning and issues.

Please note:
Caretaking staff in all schools have increased cleaning and disinfecting protocols on high touchpoints (example: doorknobs, light switches, desktops, etc.) throughout CBE schools.
Noon Supervisors will increase the level of cleanliness with the tables and seats as well as wear gloves on a daily basis
We ask that all students wash their hands prior to eating lunch and snack time on a daily basis
CBE schools will remind students of good hand washing techniques, and new posters will be provided to reinforce this.
The CBE has a supply contract for all necessary soap, sanitizer, and cleaning/disinfecting supplies. This supply is reliable and readily available.
If your child is sick, do not send them to school. Please call the school to report their absence.
If you or your child have symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing, have travelled outside Canada or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, stay home and call Health Link 811.

We are taking all direction from AHS. If you have further questions, please call Health Link at 811. School staff are unable to answer medical questions.

Erick and I are currently working on our Thursday and Friday plans for what will now be grade group planning and Professional Development work.  We will continue to focus on Literacy, Numeracy.
