Student Supervision

Please do not send your child to school before 8:25 AM. Teacher supervision begins at 8:25 AM and 12:45 PM respectively. For school hours information, see our Contact Us page.

School Access

All visitors and volunteers must enter through the main door and sign in at the main office.

All students are expected to enter through their designated entrance door when the outside bell rings. Students are expected to remove shoes or boots and carry them to their coat hooks. Students are encouraged not to use the front door during regular entry and exit times. The front door is the only door that remains unlocked throughout the school day. If students arrive late to school, they are required to enter through the front door. Students need to report to the main office for a late slip if they arrive after the hallway music has stopped.

During all supervision periods, children will be allowed access to the school to use the bathrooms or get a drink. It is expected that children will ask one of the adults on supervision for permission in order to get a drink or use the bathrooms. Students are not allowed to be in the classroom or gym after school hours, unless a teacher or appropriate adult supervises them.

Leaving During School Hours

In the interest of student safety, when children need to leave during school hours, parents / guardians or authorized caregivers must come to the office to sign out the student. Office staff will then call the student to the office.

This policy is in effect anytime a student is leaving the school. Students will be released from the school office, not from classrooms, the playground or noon supervision. This helps to ensure that we have an accurate record of students being picked up by parents or individuals authorized by the parent. If you are having your child picked up by someone who is not on your child’s contact list with the school, please send a note and call the office to authorize that person. For safety reasons, students will not be allowed to wait outside to be picked up during school hours. Students should wait in the school office until they are picked up.

Leaving After School

We strongly encourage all students to go directly home after school. Teachers are on supervision after school until 3:30 PM. Parents please discuss any alternate arrangements for pick-up after school with your children before the school day begins. In cases of emergency or if plans change suddenly, and you need to get a message to your child, please call the office.

Legal Issues

Custodial parents or legal guardians make the educational decisions for students. Only custodial parents or legal guardians are allowed to sign forms or give permissions regarding their child. Custodial parents or legal guardians may bring a guest, if they choose, to parent/teacher interviews but the custodial parent or legal guardian cannot send another individual in his/her place. All communication regarding the student should be directly with the parent/guardian and not the guest.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school via SchoolMessenger.
