Principal's Message

October/November

We have had a great start to this school year here at The Hamptons School. Students are eager to learn and teachers are enjoying working with their new classes. Teachers will keep you informed about your child’s learning on a regular basis.
Our school council met on September 25 and we discussed the School Development Plan, the school budget and the School Results Report. More information on these reports will be sent home soon. Ms. Armstrong, our new teacher, talked about our new SKILL class that we welcomed to the school in September. These meetings are always informative and you get a chance to be involved in your child’s education. The School Council has raised some money from the ADmazing coupon books that will benefit the school. The next School Council Meeting will be November 27.
Please check The Hamptons School website in the coming weeks to find information such as the School Development Plan, School Results Report, Digital Citizenship plan and minutes from the School Council meetings. Also, please look under “Teaching and Learning-Library-Resource Lists” for educational websites for you to access. Your child will enjoy enriching their learning through on-line activities which tie-in with the Provincial curriculum. We have purchased, with casino dollars, the on-line math programs Mathletics for grades 2 to 4 and a reading program called Raz Kids for grades 1 and 2. The teachers use these programs at school and your child can access these programs from home.
To enhance learning, there are special activities in the school or out in the community.
In October, the Grade 2 students will be going to Heritage Park. Whole school events through October and November include Indigenous hoop making and dancing, Zumba and Kananaskis in the Classroom.. These events are taught by specialists and are paid for by Casino funds. Alberta Opera will be here on November 12. The Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 8. Parents are welcome to attend.
We had our first fire drill in September. We hold 6 fire drills during the year and 2 lockdown drills. These help prepare everyone in the school for these scenarios. We also have an evacuation site at Tom Baines School if the school had to close during the day for reasons such fire, loss of heat, etc. It is part of our policy to keep everyone safe at school.
