Information for students:​

High School 

Each H.D. Cartwright student has a designated high school based on their home address. The school may be in your community or in another community depending on space and the program your child is enrolled in. You can use the Find a School to learn about your designated high school or to learn about the locations of alternative programs of choice. 


Grade 9 High School Tours

During the first week in January 2019, H.D. Cartwright students will have presentations from Robert Thirsk, Sir Winston Churchill and Bowness High School.  Following the presentations, only those student designated will have the opportunity to visit their designated school during the grade 9 high school tours.  

  • January 9 – Robert Thirsk High School Presentation (all 9's)
  • January 10- Sir Winston Churchill HS Presentation (all 9's)
  • January 11 – Bowness HS Presentation (all 9's)
  • January 16, 11:30 - 2:15 – Robert Thirsk High School Tour (designated 9's only)
  • January 17, 8:20 - 2:00 – Bowness High Tours (designated 9's only)
  • January 22, 8:20 - 12:00 – Sir Winston Churchill High School Tour (designated 9's only)


High School Open Houses

All H.D. Cartwright students and parents are invited to the high school Open Houses. The Open House give students and parents the opportunity to learn about the high schools and the programs they offer students. It is highly recommended that if you are considering a high school transfer that you attend the open house, as they will also share information about the transfer process.

  • January 22, 6:00 - 8:00 pm – Sir Winston Churchill Open House

  • Please join us on February 6th in the Bowness High School Main Gym to learn more about: Transitioning to High School; High School Readiness and Mindsets; Programming, Resources and Supports; Grade 10 Homeroom (Bow Time); and What Parents Need to Know. Speakers will include Ms. Tracy Dalton, Mr. Byron Koop, Mr. Ryan Hurley, Dawn Berry and Ms. Jean Lee. 
  • Parents from all Area I middle schools and junior highs are welcome to come for this information session as the information will be somewhat general and helpful to all.
  • Future Parent Education Evenings:
    May 1, 2019 – 6:30 to 8:00 – please stay tuned
