Principal's Message

February 16th

February 16th, 2020
Good morning to the Ian Bazalgette community.
This coming week we have several students leaving the building for various field trips and experiences beyond Ian Bazalgette School.  These are great opportunities for our students to connect the learning they are engaging in beyond the school walls. It takes a lot of planning and preparation for these trips and we also want to express our appreciation to our Parent Council which also through the casino fundraising helps supplement some of the coats of these trips.
Later this week our Grade 9 Team along with Mr. McKay will be joining the Forest Lawn High School Team to continue the process of transitioning the grade 9’s onto to High School. There is much involved when we transition students from one grade to another, there is even more involved when we transition students from one setting to another.  This process involves many conversations and sharing of knowledge about our students to help set them up for success as they make their way onto grade 10 next year.  We are also in the process of setting up our transitions for the grade 5’s as they make their way to us in grade 6 next year.
This past Thursday and Friday teachers and support staff had the opportunity to attend their annual convention. This is an opportunity for us to connect professionally and engage in Professional Development annually as we attend sessions that support our growth. I am always better off for attending sessions that help me understand new perspectives based on research that helps support students in their learning and the convention is an opportunity to access that research. I am excited to connect with our staff to leverage those experiences to help us elevate the learning at Ian Bazalgette.
Painting update – the school will see an increase in painting activity as the painters will return this coming week. We are on schedule to have the school done this project as we approach Spring Break.  This will give us a great opportunity to re-envision the learning space at Ian Bazalgette for our learning community.
Just a reminder to those grade 7 parents who have received a notice from Alberta Education in regards to the Accountability Pillar Survey.  This is an opportunity to have your voice heard and an opportunity to have some input to the on-going School Development that we engage in. We have traditionally had a low number of parents participate in the process and I am hoping that we can get your feedback as it is an important voice that we need to hear from. Our grade 7 students will be completing their part of the survey this week.  Teachers also contribute to the survey and we take all those viewpoints and make decisions for our next steps based on those voices. If you are a grade 7 parent and are unsure of this survey please do not hesitate to reach out to me for more information.
Have a great Sunday out there to the Ian Bazalgette community and enjoy your Family Day Monday
