Important Dates

We are a modified calendar school. Due to the ongoing health risk of COVID-19, the CBE has made the decision to move all modified calendar schools and programs to the traditional calendar for 2020-21. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. Planning is underway for what the 2020-21 school year will look like for our students, staff and families. The CBE has created an internal task force with representatives from every service unit to lead the planning for different scenarios. All of our decisions will be guided by the advice of the province’s chief medical officer of health and Alberta Education guidelines. The safety and well being of our students and staff will come first in any decisions we make. More information will be provided to families before the first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020.​

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is August 15 and the school office is open to parents on August 12.

The first day of classes we will have a staggered entry as follows:

  • Science Program (Grades 6, 7, 8, 9): 8:30 AM - 2:35 PM
  • Grade 6: 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Grade 7 - 9: 12:30 PM - 2:35 PM

School Supply Lists

School supply lists are distributed by teachers the first week of school along with course outlines.

Noon Supervision

A full meal lunch service is provided to all students. Hot meals at reasonable prices are available. Students who are late may be required to eat lunch in a supervised area. Should students choose to leave school property at lunch, they do so with their parent’s permission. Eating at school is a privilege; students are expected to keep the school clean and to put all waste materials in the garbage cans and recycling cans provided.

Slurpees and ice caps are not prohibited but if students have them in the building they are responsible for cleaning up any mess that is incurred.

Grade 6 Students Staying for Lunch

We provide students with the option of staying at school for lunch. Dedicated noon supervision is offered to all students in Grades 6. A noon supervision form must be filled out and noon supervision fees are charged to parents of all students who use noon supervision services. This service provides students with the opportunity to practice social skills supported by caring adult supervision.

Noon supervision at our school includes:

  • a safe and secure place for children to have lunch
  • a caring environment that fosters and maintains respectful, responsible behaviors
  • attendance will be taken and communication is made home if a student is absent
  • a drop-in service
  • access to the service, without a wait list

Each day we have teachers supervising during lunch throughout the school but only Grade 6 students will be eligible to have specific noon supervision, which will require that they sit in a dedicated place in the bistro for the first fifteen minutes of lunch. Once dismissed they must remain in the school and either be in the Learning Commons, movie room or games room.  They are not allowed to leave the school property without a note from a parent.

If parents give permission for their Grade 6 child to leave school at lunch, a written note must be provided to the office.

All parents of Grade 6 students will be required to complete a form indicating their student’s lunch plan at the beginning of the school year.

Do You Have a MyCBE / PowerSchool Parent Account?

Parents who have not already done so, must create an account in MyCBE / PowerSchool to:

  • Pay fees or apply for a waiver

  • Register for transportation and noon supervision

  • View student progress

To create a new account, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe and click on Create Parent Account. You will need to have your child(ren)’s CBE Student ID Number and use your email on file at the school.​

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families after the start of the school year in September and October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

Yellow School Bus Tra​nsportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2020-21 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in May. While CBE Transportation continues to accept pre-registrations, these will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving.

In September, a confirmation email will be sent to all parents/guardians who have submitted a pre-registration, if the parent/guardian has subscribed to receive messages. It will include transportation fee information (if applicable) and payment options (if applicable). Families can cancel their pre-registration with no financial penalty using MyCBE / PowerSchool by Sept. 30, 2020.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.​​​​
