Update re online learning at Jack James

Hello Jack James students and families,
I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain times and change in our traditional learning routine.
Over the last couple weeks we have had a number of updates to protect the health and safety of our community which has impacted traditional teaching and learning in our school, however our staff has been working hard to develop online and print resources to support our learners.

As we return from spring break on Monday, March 30 our teachers are eager to reconnect with their students. Although it will look different in each class, and each program, our teachers have all created a D2L online course to connect with their students. This online course will be the platform for students to continue the work in their classes, but also make up for any missing assignments prior to the March 16 cancellation of classes. This may look very different that what a typical class looked like prior to this change, but even our shops & CTS classes have created online learning opportunities for our students to continue to earn credits in their courses.

On Monday students will be receiving emails in their @educbe.ca email to access their D2L online courses or they can log on at Brightspace for D2L on the CBE website under quicklinks or via our Jack James School website with their student Id#- https://d2l.cbe.ab.ca/d2l/loginh/
Welcome to Desire2Learn Login Page | Calgary Board of Education - CBE Brightspace by D2L is a powerful and secure personalized learning platform used extensively at CBE. d2l.cbe.ab.ca
We know that not all students have access to internet & technology at home. Teachers will be contacting home on Monday and Tuesday to ask some questions of our students as we are gathering information on students who will need support with accessing technology. We will also provide print materials for students to pick up resources
or personal items.

I will be sending communication home at the end of the day on Monday, March 30 with more information on how we will be planning time for lesson delivery online and how students/families can pick up materials from the school if they do not have access to technology to support online learning.
The school will not be open for drop-in visitors and all we will coordinate times with individuals who need to pick up/drop off work.
Students are encouraged to communicate with their teachers via email, telephone or through their D2L course once they are enrolled, if they have the technology to do so.
Students can also access teacher emails via our school website – About Us à Contact Us à Our Staff or can call the school to leave a message for their teacher to return the call.
