Principal's Message

November 2019

Principals' message      Believing the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow whatever path you choose.  - Steve Jobs      The first months of the year are under our belt and we are settling into routines and deep learning.    We are truly fortunate to have a strong partnership between home and school at our Montessori school as is evident in the beautiful materials, numerous field trips, artists in residences, and community building activities we have.  Trickster Theatre was a highlight to start our year and get those creative juices flowing and the many off site and in school field trips allow for a true integration of learning across our curriculum.  We thank our generous parents and parent council for supporting the Artists in Residence!  We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generosity with the Annual Fundraising Campaign.  It was the most successful campaign yet and 100% of the proceeds will directly impact our children.    Maria Montessori’s approach to education was grounded in offering children real-world learning.  She encouraged children to use glass objects to foster a mindful awareness of the fragile nature of our world.  Dr. Montessori also required learning materials be made from wood so children could feel the weight, the texture, and appreciate the beauty of the materials by connect with the natural world through its resources. Everything our children do is in support of learning and we live in a world which is truly AWE-some.    Today we continue to offer ways for children to connect the dots as they become the leaders of tomorrow.  The focus of our work is in engaging the children to ask questions, be curious, and to identify their role and impact on the world around them.        All children can engage in current event conversations on topics that are relevant, interesting and age appropriate.  Giving your children opportunities to be of service is important for their development.  Young children can help out at home and older children can also begin volunteering in their local communities.   The exposure to such experiences is how children will make sense of their world and feel connected to it.  It is through this relationship that children will grow their empathy.    To insure we have a future we must educate our children to be Peace educators, stewards of our resources, collaborators, and have an attitude of gratitude.  Being with children inspires us to laugh, have wonders, and be kind every day!        Stay informed through our Twitter   @killarneycbe  and our school messenger updates!      With Gratitude,  Bonnie Caldwell   Rita Traxler
