The first two weeks of classes will focus on reviewing the necessary basic skills, including factoring and basic multiplication facts to prepare students for Grade 8. The next topic will be **Representing Data**.

**Math** is the type of subject that builds on previous lessons; therefore, **daily** review of class work and homework completion is necessary to build understanding and success. Frequent quizzes will be given to gauge understanding.

**School Supplies:**

**Sharp pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, lined & graph paper (.5 cm), geometry set, scientific calculator, 30 cm ruler.**

**Science** is a way of asking questions to gain a better understanding of the world and beyond.

Students will gain knowledge; analyze information and situations to communicate; and solve problems.

In September, students will begin a 3 week analysis of their household's waste production. This will require collecting data, creating tables, and graphing information.

This fits well with the first math topic, **Representing Data **and **Stem 4** of science--**Explore events and issues in society and the environment.**

**At times**, students will be asked to bring their cell phones, lap tops, or other devices to watch educational videos.

Students will need ear buds or headphones in order to listen quietly.

There is lots of science in both movies

It was suggested that students watch the movie in groups---more entertaining but also allows for discussion

**First movie** is called U571--WWII submarine movie restricted R--probably because there are gun shots--it is a war movie

find all the science that is involved---diesel engines and batteries---nowadays they build fuel and battery powered cars

Movie is also historical---science + history

**Second movie** is called **LIFE**---organisms from Mars---they talk about cells, cytoplasm, Carbon based organism

should we really look for them? What if they come to earth?

In class we discussed the role of a person hosting a gathering, and also the role of guests---discuss with your parents

We will discuss the science in the 2 movies in class---come prepared with information and ideas

**Math** is the type of subject that builds on previous lessons; therefore, **daily** review of class work and homework completion is necessary to build understanding and success. Frequent quizzes will be given to gauge understanding.

Students will gain knowledge; analyze information and situations to communicate; and solve problems.

In September, students will begin a 3 week analysis of their household's waste production. This will require collecting data, creating tables, and graphing information.

This fits well with the first math topic, **Representing Data **and **Stem 4** of science--**Explore events and issues in society and the environment.**

**At times**, students will be asked to bring their cell phones, lap tops, or other devices to watch educational videos.

Students will need ear buds or headphones in order to listen quietly.

**Second movie** is called **LIFE**---organisms from Mars---they talk about cells, cytoplasm, Carbon based organism

Hopefully, students have a better understanding of the role they play in using water wisely and how they discharge waste

This trip and the Home Waste Project completed in October go well together and we should have a better understanding of our impact on our environment
