September 4, 2018

Welcome back to a new school year :)

The first two weeks of classes will focus on reviewing the necessary basic skills, including factoring and basic multiplication facts to prepare students for Grade 8. The next topic will be Representing Data.

Math is the type of subject that builds on previous lessons; therefore, daily review of class work and homework completion is necessary to build understanding and success. Frequent quizzes will be given to gauge understanding.

School Supplies:

Sharp pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, lined & graph paper (.5 cm), geometry set, scientific calculator, 30 cm ruler.

Please note that cell phones are to be left in lockers.

Videos can be found in YouTube--search Ted Kurcwal--find the correct themed file

Science is a way of asking questions to gain a better understanding of the world and beyond.

Students will gain knowledge; analyze information and situations to communicate; and solve problems.

In September, students will begin a 3 week analysis of their household's waste production. This will require collecting data, creating tables, and graphing information.

This fits well with the first math topic, Representing Data and Stem 4 of science--Explore events and issues in society and the environment.

At times, students will be asked to bring their cell phones, lap tops, or other devices to watch educational videos.

Students will need ear buds or headphones in order to listen quietly.
