Principal's Message

January 2018

The opening of Nelson Mandela High School last year was truly an amazing experience for staff, students and parents.  It was nothing short of incredible and it was a year filled with so many ‘firsts’ both exciting and challenging.  These events helped shape the culture of Mandela – that of truly being ‘United’.  As we embark on a new year, with a full complement of students we know that our staff and students are proud of the school we have created and the culture we have begun to establish.
At Nelson Mandela High School, we believe in personalizing learning for each and every one of our students.  Through a culture built on the power of strong relationships and really getting to know our students we believe we are able to challenge our students to be forward thinking and creative in the work they are undertaking while maintaining high standards of rigor and excellence.  We believe that high school should be a time of excitement and curiosity for students as they learn more about who they are as learners, take on new challenges and experience so many of the new courses that are available to them.  The choices are indeed abundant.
The key to high school success is to become involved and really try out new things, finding your passion, and taking advantage of the many unique opportunities that become available to students – really the sky is the limit.  Athletic teams are available in all sports at the junior and senior levels. Coaches are eager to engage and encourage you to develop your skills. Excellent sportsmanship, genuine enthusiasm and a strong work ethic exemplify the athletic experience. Involvement in school doesn’t end there…there are so many clubs and other activities to be involved with.  We truly encourage every student to find something that helps to define and enhance their high school experience at Mandela.  Whether it is academics or extracurricular opportunities you are seeking – Nelson Mandela High School has so much to offer.
On behalf of the staff of Nelson Mandela High School, we welcome you to our school.  We know that by working together, collaborating, sharing ideas, listening to one another, and offering feedback we will continue to create an amazing school.  Welcome to Nelson Mandela High School – we truly are United!
