Principal's Message

Student Leadership Council

We are thrilled to be working with our new Student Leadership Council elected by their peers in late December. These students meet weekly with our administration team to talk about school issues and enhancements. They will run six assemblies between January and June, and will work closely with all classes to gather input on school happenings such as the Dance-a-thon, charities, and other special events. In addition, these students will work behind the scenes to photograph and share all the good work going on in classes.
All the students who put their names forward, and presented election speeches, represented themselves in a dignified and mature manner, it was a proud moment for the school to see these students take such a risk and perform so well. For some students, this adds to their leadership story and for others, it is their first leadership opportunity.
CHARITY ART SHOW AND SALE
The Leadership Council is planning an art show and sale in March.
-   Students are invited to create an art piece that they would want to sell. They have between now and the Student Led conferences in the third week of March to make something.
-  It could be a sculpture, a drawing, a painting, fabric arts or any original art.
-  The Leadership Council will set the up the exhibits in the library the week of conferences so it looks like a museum/art show.
-  During Student Led Conferences, there will be a sheet beside each art piece, and people can write their name and the amount of money they want to pay for the art. If two people want the same item, they can outbid each other on the sheet.
-  All money raised will go to the Mustard Seed, which is an organization to help people who do not have homes or money for food and basic items.
-  The Leadership Council will be putting up posters soon and will be making a flyer that will go home in the last week of February.

We love our Friday meetings with the group and are excited about this extension of the curriculum. Representing our school this year is Amanda, Elise, Erechka, Finn, Cole W, Emma, Zachary, Zephyr, Rylan, Heather, Hailey, Wynston and Nyasha.
