Important Dates

We follow the CBE Traditional Calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.


First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is Tuesday Sep. 3, 2019 and the school office is open to parents on Wednesday Aug. 28, 2019 at 9:15 AM.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 with students participating in ‘staggered entry’. Each student is assigned a staggered entry time and will come to school only for 75 minutes on September 3 and 4, 2019. Busing begins for kindergarten students on September 5, 2019.

AM classes only:

Last name starting from A-L, your time is 9:10 – 10:25

Last name starting from M-Z, your time is 10:40 – 11:55

PM classes only:

Last name starting from A-H, your time is 12:50 – 2:05

Last name starting from I-Z, your time is 2:20 – 3:35

There will be no school bus pick up for kindergarten until September 5, 2019.

School Supply Lists

All students are required to have a backpack and lunch bag (if applicable). Indoor shoes are brought to school the first day and left at school – preferably comfortable running shoes with Velcro fasteners. Many backpacks and shoes look alike; please label all student items.

Noon Supervision

Simons Valley School offers a five-day (Monday – Friday) noon supervision program for students in Grades 1-6. Students bring their own lunches and are supervised both while they eat lunch and while they play outside. No microwave, hot water services or utensils are available. 

Assigned Teachers

Welcoming phone calls will be made by the classroom teacher to each family by September 1st.

Students will meet their teacher on the first day of school. All students are to meet on the compound areas where they will be brought into the school. Once inside the school, students will be moved into their new homeroom and meet their new teacher.

Do You Have a MyCBE / PowerSchool Parent Account?

Parents who have not already done so, must create an account in MyCBE / PowerSchool to:

  • Pay fees or apply for a waiver

  • Register for transportation and noon supervision

  • View student progress

To create a new account, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe and click on Create Parent Account. You will need to have your child(ren)’s CBE Student ID Number and use your email on file at the school.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families after the start of the school year in September and October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

Yellow School Bus Tra​nsportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2019-20 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in May. While CBE Transportation continues to accept pre-registrations, these will not be considered until route changes are done after Thanksgiving.

In October, a confirmation email will be sent to all parents/guardians who have submitted a pre-registration, if the parent/guardian has subscribed to receive messages. It will include transportation fee information (if applicable) and payment options (if applicable). Families can cancel their pre-registration with no financial penalty using MyCBE / PowerSchool by Oct. 31, 2019.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE / PowerSchool. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.​​
