Dates to Remember

Principal's Message

For the Love of Reading!

This week, the grade four and five music clubs will be restarting.  As well, just a reminder that the parking lot on on the west side of the building is for staff parking. Do not use this lot to drop your children off as it presents a large safety issue for children.
This month at West Dover, we are celebrating the Love of Reading! We have a number of fun and exciting initiatives planned!  The first thing to note that is we are kicking off the first annual West Dover Dragons Book Awards! All through the month, children in all of our classes will be reading some specially curated picture books from 2019 and reviewing them as a class. Then each class will select one book to bring forward during a special award assembly to be held at the end of the month. One book will then be chosen with the help of some special guest judges to receive our first award and we will be contacting the winning author to let them know!
A second big project is our 1000 Hours of Home Reading! Students will be given special pink tickets that they will be bringing home to you. For every 20 minutes of being read to, reading to someone, or reading with someone, a family member can initial one of the hearts. When they have filled all three hearts (one hour of reading), they bring the ticket back to the teacher who will given them another.  At the end of the month, all the tickets will be entered into a draw for a grand prize of a 20 picture book package!
To kick the month off, we will be holding a short assembly Monday after noon and thanks to a generous donation from Books for Kids, every child will be given a special book to take home with them to keep. At the end of the month and our 1000 Hours of Home Reading, each child will be given a second book courtesy of our amazing School Council and their fundraising efforts.
We hope you will take part with us and join in to celebrate and share your own Love of Reading. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s teacher. Happy Groundhogs Day!
